Rated 5 out of 5 by Great blackout for kids room We bought this for the bedroom of our 3 year old. He hates knowing that its still light outside when we put him to bed. This blackout shade really helped us with that. Other than some light leakage around the borders due to our window being about 1" bigger all around than the shade, this shade blocks out 98% of the light. I plan to buy 2 more for the other room. Rated 5 out of 5 by .This product helps a great deal to keep the house cooler. I have purchased several sets of these cellular shades. They are wonderful. The blackout aspect allows our grandchildren to take naps better and keeps out the sun which keeps the house cooler. July 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great shades. Easy to install great shades overall. Complete coverage. Good size selection July 11, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Keeps the room dark I purchased three of these blackout shades in dove gray. The mounting hardware is metal which is more durable than the typical plastic hardware. The shade also included a lift handle that snaps on the bottom. And they are true blackout, no light gets in. I also liked that the top valance (for a lack of a better word) is thicker and in the same color of the shade, and not white like most standard shades. June 22, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better quality than what I expected. I purchased these blinds for 3 of my bedrooms and am so happy with the purchase. They have a nice even glide that goes up and down easily. It's great not having cords! And they really look great from inside and outside. They do great to darken the room, even the white shades. For the money, this is a great purchase. I plan to purchase more for my family room. June 8, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Treat them gently I have some of these from 3 years ago that I need to replace because the string mechanism that rolls them up and down broke. They look great, but be very careful raising and lowering them and use the little handle in the middle because they appear to be delicate. I got them, in combination with some lined drapes, to help darken an east facing bedroom window. They aren't 100% blackout but close, and with the drapes, they do what I need them to do. If this set breaks I'm going back to roller shades that you don't have to treat with kid gloves! May 7, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love the quiet! We have always had blackout shades but these are insulated and not only keep the heat out when it is hot and the cold out when it is cold but they have really reduced the street noise we used to hear in our bedroom. We have since purchased them for all of the upstair windows. We love them. May 6, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Mirage cellular blinds make the cut! We rent our home and didn't want to spend a lot of money for a shade, so for the past year we have had cheap roller blinds on front living room bay window (yuck!) The sun shines in on the front of our home most of the afternoon. It gets very hot and uncomfortable. We really needed something prettier and more energy efficient for the long term. When this beautiful shade arrived (earlier than expected!), and my husband installed it effortlessly within minutes, we couldn't believe how within 30 minutes there was a significant change in the temperature of our living room. We immediately went online and ordered more for the sides of our bay window. We couldn't be happier!! :) March 26, 2016

Answer:
The blackout "coating" is inside the cells of the blind, both sides, but it can't be seen from either side so if both sides of your shade are the same color I don't think it matters much.

Answer:
not sure what you mean about a metallic coating. I have the porcelain sand color inside and white exterior. Sort of metallic inside the vanes but that doesn't show. Good blinds for the $$

Answer:
Well I have just noted that I have one one way and the other blind the other way. If you are looking for blackout to your room then the darker way would be to have the metalic coating away from the window and the plain coating next to the window. Hope this is helpful.

The mounting hardware is better with the Mirage, much faster installation. I think they also come with a pull down handle, don't think the others do. Both do as they claim as far as Blackout.

Answer:
I own both throughout the house for various reasons and both are fully blackout. The Mirage feels like it is better quality with a more secure mount but comes with a thicker top piece making it take up a little bit more space when fully closed. The Mirage measures exactly to the size you buy while the regular blackout shade measures 1/4 inch less than the size you buy. I am happy with both and used the slight width difference to my advantage to avoid custom shades.

my widow is 49" long and 461/2 wide. The only length I can get is 64", will that be too long for the 49" length window for an outside mount?

Answer:
It should be fine. You'll just have a small area where the shad is folded up. If you think about it, the 64 inch length is folded up into only a couple of inches when closed. The remainder that you will have from 49 to 64 is probably only a half in Maybe? So I would say it is not too long and should be fine.

Answer:
I've never mounted them on the outside, but as far as the length I think it should be fine, they stack much better than for instance, regular wood blinds which if they are the wrong length it's pretty obvious.

Answer:
I have the 64" length in windows that are 48" in length and they look fine. The extra length is just compressed at the bottom of the shade, like when you would lift it up.

I ordered this shade for our full-window back door and you can adjust the length you want to pull it down to - you don't have to pull it down all the way. It adjusts to any length.

Answer:
HI, I have the Mirage Blackout Cordless Cellular Shades installed in my master bedroom and like them - although it is more of gray out and there is some light seepage around the edges. Most of that is corrected with the addition of blackout shades. As for cutting or trimming them down, that would not be possible as the shades have a very hard plastic headrail and bottom rail. I had one window where the interior wood was 1/16" wider than the 27" due to settling and swelling, and I had to sand down the wood to get the shade to fit as there was no way to take it off the shade. If your window has a wide enough strip of trim from the opening to the glass you could try going down to a 26" as you would only have 1/8" gap on either side which should still look ok - but you may have more light seepage then.
Hope that helps answer your question.

Answer:
They are not trimmable. If you are planning on mounting them inside the window casing, the 27-inch will not work and you should get a smaller size.

These are very nice blinds and very easy to install.

I would like the bedroom to be very dark in the morning and I'm hoping that these shades block out the sun from entering the room. Can anyone let me know if they do a good job of keeping the room very dark in the morning when the sun is shining through the window?

Answer:
My gray color are in the bathroom so I was not worried about complete blackout. They are dark enough to help keep out the morning heat from the sun. I have the dark brown(not sure of the color name anymore) in my bedroom which also gets the early morning sun and I had to also put up dark brown panels with them to make our bedroom as dark as we wanted. But I like the look with the shade and panels when I open them. I also have the tussah in my living room and am very satisfied with the blackout quality to keep the hot afternoon sun at bay.

Answer:
Yes, they do. Except for that 1/4" or so on each side that doesn't quite get there because of the mounting bracket needs a little wiggle room. Mine are an off white color but doesn't matter, the blackout is on the inside and that's what keeps the room dark.
