Custom blinds and shades
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just the right light Love the clean look and privacy that these shades have to offer. The blackout option lets you play with the amount of light you need without having to let the neighbors see inside! July 4, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great blinds for the price, easy to install With a price this low, you expect an inferior product.....well, that is true in a way. These blinds are not equivalent to very expensive ones and you shouldn't expect them to be. More expensive blinds will allow you to attach at the bottom and have a track run on either side of the window. These do not do that. For me that is okay. They perform more like regular blinds that have a bonus top-down feature. I have had them up for a couple of weeks and they have withstood my cat's pawing and shoving them out of the way to gain access to the window. I was able to install then inside the frame of windows that has slightly less depth than was required and used less screws than is suggested. I added a screw to the back of the hinge (like suggested for outside mount) to gain more hold strength. They still feel like the are securely installed and look great. The room does get very dark and I enjoy the light blinds feature as well since I can keep them closed on the neighbor-side of the house but still enjoy light in my bedroom without losing privacy. June 22, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good for practical purposes I purchased 2 of these for our bedrooms. I guess they are okay, because they do what they're supposed to, but they don't look like anything I expect. I've seen the ones by another manufacturer (I think Bali) and their light-filtering part (top section) is ALMOST sheer and made of fabric. I was expecting these to be the same, but when I got them, both the top and bottom are of a synthetic material that looks like paper from afar. I got the white ones, and while the top part is white, the bottom is grayish due to the foil lining that gives the shade it's blackout property. July 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these blinds! Love numerous things about these shades, we can open them all the way, make them room darkening, or let some light in. They are easy to install. We have them on about every window in our house. Priced very well, especially when on sale and with added discounts. Hung the two of them at night in about 30 minutes, most of that time was finding my drill. Will be buying more soon for two last windows that have nasty old school roll up blinds. July 11, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very well-made product but the biggest surprise was how easy they are to put up. No exact measurements needed; just too, too easy. Very well-made product and they look just great. But the biggest surprise was how easy they are to install. No exact measurements needed; just drill a few holes, install the screws and pop on the blinds. And they're so easy to operate also. Loved them so much that we then ordered them for another room in our house. July 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Operates smoothly - and no cords! Easy to install, easy to use, and great to have the option to let light in - or not. I'm very pleased, and will get more for our other bedrooms. July 11, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Customer service Cartoons for the two blinds I ordered were missing all the hardware needed to install them. I contacted customer service and a man was able to reorder the blinds, instructed me on how to return the bad order, and gave me a discount on the reorder. I was very impressed. As a result I ordered additional window covers as I was now feeling comfortable with the process. Thanks Penney's customer service person. June 29, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these blinds.. Keeps the room dark & cool. They move smoothly. Easy to install July 1, 2016

Answer:
If you're talking about top down as in having no shades on the top like the top-down/bottom-up, then no. If you are talking about lowering the blackout part all the way so that it's completely compressed and the light-filtering part is expanded to cover most of the window, then yes.

Answer:
No, they cannot. When you pull the top down, you gain the "day" feature to allow light in. You will not be able to see out the window from the top section of the blinds.

Answer:
If you mean can they be lowered from the top to expose the window, then no, they cannot be lowered that way. They only go in one direction, from the top down.

Answer:
They work as they appear in the picture. They can be lowered as room darkening - partial or total window and they can be light filtering- partial or total window. They will not lower so that there is no shade at the top if that is what you are inquiring.

Answer:
Mine are fastened at the top so they can't be lowered from the top - the one I ordered was a little less expensive than the kind that can be adjusted from top and bottom.

Would a 36" truly be 36 inches in width or would it be 35 1/2?

Answer:
They are true to size. If you have exactly 36" window opening, I would go with a bit smaller so they fit and don't run on the sides.

Answer:
In regards to the width of the blinds, it is true to its size. We have not measured it length wise; however it does cover our window from top to bottom. Our windows measure 35x62 and we ordered 35x64. The blinds line up very nicely beside one another.

I need to return these because my window is a hair under 27" and the shades rubbed against the side of the windows, so I think they would be exactly true to size.

Answer:
The stack on the sun up/down feature which is what I have is 5 1/4". I mounted inside and it covers about 2 1/4" of the actual window cause the frame is about 3" thick before the window begins. I believe these stack thicker than a normal blind so I wouldn't know what the stack height is on a normal blind. It looks fine though even with the thicker stack.

They both stack all the way up but are about 2 inches in height fully closed. I love them and they are great as room darkening.

Answer:
Yes, they can. The middle bar can be moved all the way up, as well as the bottom bar. When both bars are raised to the top, the entire shade takes up about 5" of space. So a small part of the window is blocked at the very top. Otherwise, it's fully exposed.

Answer:
Yes, you can but only from the bottom up (not top down - the top down lets light in but filtered through the shade).

As far as I can tell these shades cannot be shorted as you would have to shorten both the light filtering and the room darkening portions of the shade.

They cannot. Though there is quite a bit of room for these to be expanded, I think they rather hide themselves well at the sill of the window.

Answer:
I have installed 9 of these 36"x64" shades on 36"x60" windows, and I LOVE them. The pleats towards the bottom don't fully open when the shades are fully extended, but I think it looks fine --- the folds just gradually get closer and closer together. When the shades are fully raised, it doesn't make a noticeable difference. Hope this helps.

My husband is concerned that these won't work well as a blackout shade during the early morning hours. Can anyone tell me how dark they make a room when the sun is up?
Thanks!

Answer:
These shades are blackout shades with the night option. We use these in our 2 year old daughter's room for naps and nighttime sleeping.
They can be transitioned to the day option, which lets in a similar amount of light to other cellular see through shades.

Answer:
These shades are worth every penny. I bought the expresso for the guest room and bath. They block all the sun. The fabric is nice and doesn't look like paper as some of them do. I got the exact width so the blinds are just a hair off the sides. Enough to move up and down. I also got the sun up/down feature. When I move down to let some light in the room they are actually too dark. I would say I wanted more light to come in using that feature. Nevertheless, I love these blinds and if I could use the limited colors in the rest of the house they would be everywhere.
