I ordered these shades to black out light in my bedroom. They do a fair job but sides let in light because the shade, although measured accurately, are not made to go to the edge of the window. The roller end sticks out a half inch beyond vinyl on both sides and then there is the pin which goes into the bracket on window frame.
Also the vinyl is thin and will probably not last very long. I would have purchased a better quality but none were offered that I could find on the website.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SusieQ Provides needed privacy
These shades are perfect for blocking light and for providing privacy. I was concerned they would not do the trick because I ordered the light gray color. However, they work as expected and I'm happy with the quality.

For years I have purchased these shades, I have them in every bedroom. I love them and highly recommend them. The room darkening is awesome.

I replaced 4 sets of mini-blinds with these shades. I cannot believe the quality of the shades for the price I paid. I wish I had replaced those nasty mini-blinds sooner.
As always, JC Penney Home has made me smile!

Love the fact that I can have whichever color I wish inside while all outside windows show white. Easy ordering, installation, blocks light and looks nice!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Melissa It's good, but wish original better quality was still available.
Although this shade is room darkening and does do what it is described to do, I wish JC Penny still carried the better (more expensive) version that they used to carry. I have been buying room darkening shades from JC Penny for the last 20 yrs. and this is the 3rd time I have had to replace this shade (in all those yrs) because eventually the spring wears out. (Note, I don't switch out the hardware, just the shades). This time I noticed they only had 1 version (the lesser quality version, with fringe or no fringe) instead of the 2 versions they used to have. For example, years ago, I ordered a better quality (more expensive version) for my bedrooms and ordered the lesser quality (less expensive version) for my basement rooms. The difference was in the material, but for my purposes it was fine. However, now that I need to replace my bedroom again, I am very disappointed to find out they don't carry the better quality anymore. The material is the big difference. This better quality material tends to unroll completely smooth and flat. The lesser quality (like this shade) instead has some ripples (or slight wrinkles) in it. The better quality version they used to have never did that. I would have gladly paid more to get a better quality version. So I am extremely disappointed but will keep the product because the hardware is already in place and it does the room darkening job it's supposed to do. I just miss the better looking/better quality version they used to have, ugh. The best thing I can say (and the main reason I continue to purchase from JC Penny) is that thankfully JC Penny will accept returns for shades if necessary (even if they were cut to size)...so that makes me feel comfortable about ordering from them, just in case!
