Habitat for Humanity

Partner of the month: Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live. This global nonprofit organization seeks to be a catalyst for transformation by building and repairing homes, mobilizing volunteers and advocating for sound housing policy worldwide. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with individuals, groups and low–income households, so families in need of a decent shelter can participate in their own housing solutions. This May, your Round Up dollars will help support Habitat for Humanity and its mission to build homes, communities and hope.

Michael Graves supports Habitat for Humanity

World–renowned architect and designer, Michael Graves, will be joining jcpenney in the support of Habitat for Humanity. Graves is a long–standing advocate for the disabled. He and his architecture practice, Michael Graves & Associates, have designed a Habitat for Humanity house that focuses on accessibility and universal design (see the floor plans, left). Habitat for Humanity will use the new design to build homes with low–income families who require accessibly designed houses.

I am very happy to be working on this project with Habitat for Humanity and jcp cares. Our nation faces major challenges related to the aging of our population. I hope to contribute to the solutions with a focus on accessible design. This project shows how one can improve accessibility without increasing costs, which is so important to affordable housing. It is my hope that this design will improve the lives of every family who will live in one of these houses.
