Custom blinds and shades
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great blinds for the price, easy to install With a price this low, you expect an inferior product.....well, that is true in a way. These blinds are not equivalent to very expensive ones and you shouldn't expect them to be. More expensive blinds will allow you to attach at the bottom and have a track run on either side of the window. These do not do that. For me that is okay. They perform more like regular blinds that have a bonus top-down feature. I have had them up for a couple of weeks and they have withstood my cat's pawing and shoving them out of the way to gain access to the window. I was able to install then inside the frame of windows that has slightly less depth than was required and used less screws than is suggested. I added a screw to the back of the hinge (like suggested for outside mount) to gain more hold strength. They still feel like the are securely installed and look great. The room does get very dark and I enjoy the light blinds feature as well since I can keep them closed on the neighbor-side of the house but still enjoy light in my bedroom without losing privacy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Customer service Cartoons for the two blinds I ordered were missing all the hardware needed to install them. I contacted customer service and a man was able to reorder the blinds, instructed me on how to return the bad order, and gave me a discount on the reorder. I was very impressed. As a result I ordered additional window covers as I was now feeling comfortable with the process. Thanks Penney's customer service person.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fit exactly according to measurements (no extra hang-over for the mechanism). Bought for my daughter's downstairs bedroom. Gave her privacy, but allows in natural light. Had looked at several other brands and either too expensive or would not fit window. By chance was in JCP and sales rep gave me the measurements on the units and showed me the sale price. Figured if they did not fit, could return them. Went up easily, fit wonderfully, and so far have worked flawlessly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cordless shade! Really like how these are room darkening, but you can also choose to have a little light come in at the top and not loose any privacy. Really happy with the linen color with our oak trim. Would buy again, just wish they weren't so expensive in custom sizes. Purchases the best size in the ready to ship, but they're not a perfect fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my new room shades After updating my house windows this summer and having new molding installed, I wanted the ability to see the new molding without compromising privacy. I bought these shades for all of the bedrooms in my house and I love them. They were super easy to install and they look great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Room Darkening Day/Night Cordless Cellular Shade I bought these for my living room and I love them. They are of good quality, nice material, and raise and lower without a cord. They feel very substantial and I expect they will last a long time. Very pleased.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Was better before I ordered this same shade for my son's room a year ago, and the old one has much better room darkening capabilities. It looks like the manufacturer changed materials or something. While it doesn't darken my daughter's room as much as I'd like, it is still a very nice looking, high quality shade. I like the option of light filtering/room darkening in 1 window treatment. Once installed, it feels very sturdy and glides smoothly up and down. The one in my son's room still looks like it did the day we got it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install. top quality blinds. My order arrived sooner than I thought it would, with clear instructions to install. I like the room darkening feature make a big difference in our sun room!

Answer:
The stack on the sun up/down feature which is what I have is 5 1/4". I mounted inside and it covers about 2 1/4" of the actual window cause the frame is about 3" thick before the window begins. I believe these stack thicker than a normal blind so I wouldn't know what the stack height is on a normal blind. It looks fine though even with the thicker stack.

They both stack all the way up but are about 2 inches in height fully closed. I love them and they are great as room darkening.

Answer:
Yes, they can. The middle bar can be moved all the way up, as well as the bottom bar. When both bars are raised to the top, the entire shade takes up about 5" of space. So a small part of the window is blocked at the very top. Otherwise, it's fully exposed.

Answer:
Yes, you can but only from the bottom up (not top down - the top down lets light in but filtered through the shade).

My husband is concerned that these won't work well as a blackout shade during the early morning hours. Can anyone tell me how dark they make a room when the sun is up?
Thanks!

Very dark. Ours is installed over the window portion of an outside door. We have a light on all night outside and this shade really darkens the room. I doubt you will have a problem.

Answer:
These shades are blackout shades with the night option. We use these in our 2 year old daughter's room for naps and nighttime sleeping.
They can be transitioned to the day option, which lets in a similar amount of light to other cellular see through shades.

Answer:
These shades are worth every penny. I bought the expresso for the guest room and bath. They block all the sun. The fabric is nice and doesn't look like paper as some of them do. I got the exact width so the blinds are just a hair off the sides. Enough to move up and down. I also got the sun up/down feature. When I move down to let some light in the room they are actually too dark. I would say I wanted more light to come in using that feature. Nevertheless, I love these blinds and if I could use the limited colors in the rest of the house they would be everywhere.

Answer:
If you're talking about top down as in having no shades on the top like the top-down/bottom-up, then no. If you are talking about lowering the blackout part all the way so that it's completely compressed and the light-filtering part is expanded to cover most of the window, then yes.

No, they cannot. When you pull the top down, you gain the "day" feature to allow light in. You will not be able to see out the window from the top section of the blinds.

If you mean can they be lowered from the top to expose the window, then no, they cannot be lowered that way. They only go in one direction, from the top down.

Answer:
They work as they appear in the picture. They can be lowered as room darkening - partial or total window and they can be light filtering- partial or total window. They will not lower so that there is no shade at the top if that is what you are inquiring.

Mine are fastened at the top so they can't be lowered from the top - the one I ordered was a little less expensive than the kind that can be adjusted from top and bottom.

Would a 36" truly be 36 inches in width or would it be 35 1/2?

They are true to size. If you have exactly 36" window opening, I would go with a bit smaller so they fit and don't run on the sides.

Answer:
In regards to the width of the blinds, it is true to its size. We have not measured it length wise; however it does cover our window from top to bottom. Our windows measure 35x62 and we ordered 35x64. The blinds line up very nicely beside one another.

I need to return these because my window is a hair under 27" and the shades rubbed against the side of the windows, so I think they would be exactly true to size.

As seen in the picture, the bottom section is room darkening and provides excellent privacy and covers the entire window. Very smooth operation when changing between the filtering upper section and the darkened lower section. They're very nice looking. Get lots of compliments!
