I have had the mixer for a few years and it is awesome at mixing stuff and whipping cream. I got into home made penut butter , hunting, and sausage making. The grinder handles peanuts just fine but quickly heats up and I'm afraid I'm going to burn it out like I did the last 2 blenders I used. Blenders are cheap, kitchen aid machines not so. I tryed preccessing a deer and it took me almost 4 hours to grind 16 lb of venison. I had to clean the gunk and connective tissue every half pound. I had it trimmed, cubed, and nearly frozen. I thought it was just the venison but I had to clean the plate and blade twice grinding 1 lb of pork shoulder. To make maters worse it chracked! I have 3 cracks where the unit attaches to the machine and one where the feed tube meets the body. I have food coming out of that second crack. Love the mixer, hate the grinder. I got a dedicated grinder and a sausage stuffer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Cecily grinder body is NOT like the mixer
I have owned my Kitchen Aid Mixer Blender since 1978 - until my son bought me a 'new' one for Christmas a few years back (the sly boy thought I needed a silver one instead of white - and then marched out the door with my old one!) Today I was grinding trimed beef when the outer body of the Food Grinder cracked and broke into 3 pieces. I have mostly used it to fine grind already ground meat for meat balls. The grinder had dificulty with solid meat! Compared to the quality of the mixer, the food grinder is cheaply made of plastic. Considering the pressure created with grinding meat, plastic is a poor choice of material to use, I've always thought this piece should have been made of cast metal. However, this is what we have and I am looking for a part number and place to replace only the outer body. I hope someone can post a reply advising me what to do. Thank you.

I've been married 43 years and have had a Kitchen Aid mixer unit for about 40 of those after being dissatisfied with another brand's Kitchen Center unit. I am on my 3rd mixer due to overworking the unit with heavy dough or large batches of meat- finally got smart & bought a Pro unit with a Heavy Duty motor. (I make large batches of breads and homemade kiebasy with my unit for holidays; some of the sausage batches go up to 35-40 pounds.) I found that cracking of the grinder unit tends to happen when the person pushing the plunger and the unit are not at a proper height. My in-law's grinder cracked because they set their unit on a lower table causing too much direct pressure from leaning on the grinder as they worked the plunger, but mine never did that using either the kitchen table or placing it on my island. I'm still using the same grinder I got almost 40 years ago. Connective tissue can be a problem with some meat depending on how it is trimmed and sliced for the grinder, but overall we're very pleased. I've asked for the pasta roller for Christmas, and plan to use that to help me make my pierogi.

I bought this years back and have been using it. The outer screw cap cracked in the 3rd use and got another one ( spare part) It grinds well provided the meat is quite cold but not frozen. I just love it.

I received this as a gift after I got my first mixer! I was very excited to be able to grind my own meats and cheeses, boy was I wrong..... The cheese sticks to everything and it's a pain to clean, and you have to clean the blade after about 3/4 a block of cheese. As for meet grinding, get a hand all metal grinder or plan to do only about 1/2 pound at a time when you need it. Pretty big disappointment kitchen-aid. Doesn't give me confidence in the other attachments

I purchased my KitchenAid stand mixer this summer along with the food grinder attachment. Just before Thanksgiving my food processor (probably 35 years old) quit working while I was making fresh cranberry orange relish. So I made the decision to use the food grinder to complete the task. It made the task so much easier! It ground the cranberries and orange sections with peels without any problems. I made a double batch that day, and then again a couple of weeks later. Then I decided to process a bushel of apples and make applesauce. I only wash and core my apples; I do not peel them. After cooking them til they were soft, I put them through the food grinder. It was so fast and did a beautiful job! I will not be replacing my food processor. Thanks KitchenAid for such a quality product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Nebraska cook Food grinder not nearly the quality of mixer
Just purchased grinder attachment. First use and plastic body of grinder cracks! I suppose I work have read the reviews but based on over 20 years of positive experience with Kitchenaid stand mixers, mistakenly assumed the attachment would have the same quality.

My wife and I bought this attachment with the new KitchenAid Mixer we received as a Christmas present. I used it preparing dinner last evening, making chicken and pork filling for pan-fried dumplings. The grinder attachment worked great, just as advertised. Next, we will be purchasing the chopper/shredder attachment. Can't wait.
