Rated 2 out of 5 by from Expandable Crib Wonderful, but bed rails are poor quality material We purchased the Monterey expandable crib set for my son, and loved the crib. It's been tough and beautiful at the same time, but then we expanded the crib to the full size bed using the available bed rails. They both split and one actually resulted in the bed crashing to the floor. Not sure if any other options are available, we re-ordered (and just hope it wasn't a totally waste of money buying the same product). Once you own the crib, what do you do? Called the manufacturer, and the woman I spoke with wasn't pleasant and said "one year warranty - sorry"... well, we purchased them at the same time as the crib, so the warranty expired before they were ever out of the box. I feared they would discontinue this set (as often happens), so thought I was being wise to order at the same time as the crib. Not so. I'm uploading a picture, as well... appears to not be solid wood, which I would expect for a support. Disappointed, to say the least.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rails are great! I purchased the Monterey crib over 5 years ago and did not originally purchase the bed rails when we converted it to a full size bed over 2 years ago. I was tired of the headboard not being attached to the mattress frame and we needed more under bed storage space. I finally decided to spend the money to purchase the rails and I am so glad I did. I only wish I had purchased them originally. The bed now looks so much nicer and there is more storage underneath for storing toys for my son. It also comes with plenty of bed slats so it is sturdy and safe. I didn't realize a box spring isn't needed since it makes the bed way too tall. Again, I wish I had ordered these originally so I didn't have to worry about disposing of a useless box spring and mattress frame. I highly recommend ordering the bed rails if you plan to convert this crib to a full size bed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good until it breaks Judging from other reviews and our experience, it looks like there is a defect in this product that causes the ends of the wood to split apart, causing the bed to crash to the floor. The metal rails to rip out of the split wood on both sides. We will be reaching out to Bedford Baby and JCP in hope that they will replace the defective product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from overall: pleased and what I expected We purchased the Monterey crib in Cherry almost 4 years ago and was relieved that all items in this set are still available and matched perfectly. I ordered on a Thursday and received the rails on the next Monday. The rails also came with enough slats so that you don't even have to use box springs. However, I had already purchased the box springs with my mattress so I used them. Just know that it makes the mattress very high off the floor. I'm going to need to purchase a guard rail so my 3 1/2 year old is safe way up there.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rail broke at story time! The bed rail for my son's convertible bed broke while I was reading bed-time stories! Not only did it collapse while we were on it, the bracket broke out of not just one end, but BOTH. I never had a complaint with the crib, but a bed rail that splits in half after two years is unacceptable. I have yet to address with either JCP or Bedford as it just happened, but I will update the review if I get any positive customer service from either company.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bed Rail Defected- No Response from Bedford Baby While reading to my 3 year old in her bed last week one of the bed rails collapsed to the floor. I have emailed Bedford Baby three times and have yet to hear from them. I would not recommend buying this product if the company will not stand by their product or address defects.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I don't know how good they are Because I can't even get them shipped. We have had these on order for 2+ months and are still waiting. That is ridiculous. Unless you plan way in advance or don't plan to convert the crib to a bed, I would get something else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Ordered this on a Friday and recieved it by Tuesday, very quick delivery! The quality of the rails are very good and durable. It came with lots of slats for the mattress to rest on. We put a box spring as well as mattress, but this makes bed high so if your worried about the little one falling out, I would stick with just the mattress. The coversion rails were very easy to change the toddler bed into a real bed. Plenty of room under bed too for storage, as the rails make the bed higher than the toddler/crib was. I loved the crib and was great quality as well as the matching bedroom furniture so I was expecting nothing less when I got the conversion rails.

How high is the bed w/ a box spring?

I've never not had a box spring before but i've read in the comments it makes the bed really high. How high is high and what does it look like w/o the box spring? Does it look ok? My son is almost 6 so we aren't too concerned w/ him rolling out of the bed but also want to be safe.
Asked by: Vicky
From the floor, with the box springs, the bed measures 26". It might be a little high for a 6 year old.
