Would assume a normal full size mattress would fit. We purchased a Cal-King and it fit just fine. The bed comes with slats on which you can place the mattress, however, we ended up removing the slats and placing it on a metal frame because the mattress sat up too high due to an extremely thick mattress with an additional foam topper.

The bed has slats and does not require additional framing. The bed accommodates a full size mattress and foundation.

Yes, this bed doesn't come with slats, just a couple of cross bars, so you'd need a box spring, OR to add your own slats. any box spring would work.
