It's perfectly normal for new wool rugs to shed. This happens as a result of loose fibers created during the weaving process. Regular vacuuming 2-3 times a week will help keep it under control until the rug has been seasoned and no longer sheds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very soft and nice detail After reading many reviews, decided to purchase this rug and see how it goes. Was happy with the detail and the plushness of the material. It is wool, and expected to have some initial shedding. Did proper vacuuming, and it has been fine. I do not see the heavy shedding people are noting. I wonder if some folks are "beating" them to death with the vacuum? Of course, raise the bar on your vacuum head to clean and should be fine. In fairness, do not have little children (all grown up) or pets running around the house. We have it placed in our reading room (den) and looks very nice on the wood floors. It has a soft cotton backing, but, I always recommend using a pad underneath to protect rug and floors. I would have rated quality a 5 stars, but, some of the inside border was a little off, (it is hand made), but we still liked it enough to keep it. Purchased on sale which makes it a good value for this type of rug. I added a picture to show it looks in the room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Rug...Hard to Remove Stains I bought several of these rugs...in sage AND ivory. They really are very beautiful, and they add elegance to my country house! They have a nice, thick pile making them feel more expensive than they are. I recommend using the Super Movenot rug pads underneath for proper cushioning and to extend the life. When guests walk on these rugs (and the pads underneath) they always comment on how plush they feel. "What's under these?" people always ask! My ONLY complaint is that, despite reading that wool rugs are super easy to get stains out of, I have yet to discover a method or product that does the job. I am attempting to remove from the carpet, pet sickness stains that are barely a shade darker than the ivory rug itself. All the recommended blotting, (and blotting and blotting and blotting) does little to remove the stain and much to mash down the pile that I love so much. Even if the stain becomes more of a shadow (remember, I can't get them OUT), the carpet is packed down in the area which I think draws the eye as much AS a stain. Other than that, gorgeous rugs! Remember to raise your beater bar in the vacuum (or turn it off altogether) when cleaning them or else you end up with wads and wads of wool gumming up the works. I love my rugs and would recommend them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in value & in choices! I've had these rugs for 3 1/2 months & hope this helps others: 1. With this design, you have 4 OPTIONS of SHAPES that are scattered on JCP's website -- Area Rugs, Hall Runners, Octagons, & Circles. 2. I bought 3 of these shapes. 2 are in daily traffic areas & I've had NO SHEDDING PROBLEMS at all. 3. With the "biege" Octagon Rug, the major color is actually IVORY, like shown on the background of the "sage" ones. (Beige is only used within part of the designs.). 4. ALL the shapes & colors easily coordinate with each other & use the same colors of wool. .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Rug I bought this about 3-4 weeks ago and love it. The only thing that has me worried is some threads (and by threads, I mean the thick wool rug ones) came out. I am worried if more do that it will be noticeable. The only shedding it does is when I vacuum. Other posters had me worried I would have red threads all over my floor but that is not so. It just fills up my vacuum canister whenever it is vacuumed. It is so thick and plush, I wish my whole floor felt like that. The rug overall is wonderful and hope it lasts for many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Rug I wanted a fleur de lis rug to complete the fleur de lis theme in my great room and chose this rug in sage. It's a soft green, very pretty and the light color brightens the room against my dark furniture. I liked this rug so much that I just purchased the ruby color and matching entry size rug. Does anyone know if the ruby color is more red or burgundy? I highly recommend this rug.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice Beautiful rug and fits well under small kitchen table. The only complaint is that after unrolling it, there is an indentation that discolors the rug due to how it was rolled. Otherwise, it's a great product and the color (sage) is gorgeous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the plush rug!!!! I love these wool rugs, they are soo thick and rich looking. I have bought probley more than 20 like this one off of the JCP catalog and will not buy any that are not wool ever again. I love how durable they are and they last for years and years. I have read a lot of comments regarding massive shedding, yes the rugs shed, but they are 100% wool, and that should be expected. Just like angora sweaters, or products that are thick with fur, it sheds, it doesnt made it poor quality, but my opinion better, because they were made to look just as thick as the day you purchase the item. Vacuuming makes them look good as new. It takes a while but the shedding stops and your still left with an amazing item, patience is worth the end result.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value When They're On Sale Purchased this rug in Ruby. It's well made, and the colour is true to what's depicted. The rug sheds when I vacuum, but that's to be expected with wool rugs. It was on sale when I bought it several months ago - if you're eyeing this rug, but can wait until the price drops, it's an excellent value. Recommended.
