It's perfectly normal for new wool rugs to shed. This happens as a result of loose fibers created during the weaving process. Regular vacuuming 2-3 times a week will help keep it under control until the rug has been seasoned and no longer sheds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Very soft and nice detail After reading many reviews, decided to purchase this rug and see how it goes. Was happy with the detail and the plushness of the material. It is wool, and expected to have some initial shedding. Did proper vacuuming, and it has been fine. I do not see the heavy shedding people are noting. I wonder if some folks are "beating" them to death with the vacuum? Of course, raise the bar on your vacuum head to clean and should be fine. In fairness, do not have little children (all grown up) or pets running around the house. We have it placed in our reading room (den) and looks very nice on the wood floors. It has a soft cotton backing, but, I always recommend using a pad underneath to protect rug and floors. I would have rated quality a 5 stars, but, some of the inside border was a little off, (it is hand made), but we still liked it enough to keep it. Purchased on sale which makes it a good value for this type of rug. I added a picture to show it looks in the room. April 23, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Rug walks by itself! Looks good far away. The product looks good far away, like it is higher quality, but up close the lines are not defined as well. Also, we have it on another rug to cover a cord but it moves in the opposite direction you would think it would. My husband likes it, and it does blend with our bedroom, but I would have thought that for the price it would have been better quality. We are keeping it, but I am a little disappointed in the quality. October 3, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Beautiful Rug This rug is very beautiful. However, the red dye did rub off on the beige part so be wary of this. It is very plush and well made. September 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by love the rugs! I ordered 2 of these rugs in sage and love them. They look much more expensive than they were. Wish I'd have bought them sooner to enjoy. August 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this rug! This is the fourth of this rug that we have purchased for our new home. We have them in the living room, entryway, hallway and dining room and they are beautiful. The quality is wonderful. The rug is thick and luxurious. June 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Room Change This gorgeous rug changed the entire mood in my living room. My living space with from dull to upscale in a matter of minutes. The quality and value were exceptional. June 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by loving the color and style The was the perfect addition to our 'refresh' of our living room. We changed paint color and drapery (sage) and this rug in sage green tied it all together and gave the room a new feel. Excellent quality, nice plush nap. April 25, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Purchase With Some Qualification This rug is a good buy for the money. It was described as shedding loose fibers. I did not know that this meant that the rug would lose actual loops of thread. I have had the rug for about three weeks now, it is vacuumed daily, and the shedding has not decreased. People with cats or dogs should keep animals off the rug because their claws pull loops ("sheds") out of the rug very easily. I have two other rugs of this same size and construction and also all wool. The prices of these rugs were about twice the price of the rug I am reviewing. My other rugs do not shed or loose loops. In fact, it is difficult to even pull a loop out of the rugs; whereas, loops from the rug discussed here lose loops extremely easily. Again, however, I think this rug is a good buy for the price.
