by pastrychefNtrainin great product!
I LOVE making ice cream instead of buying it, and this product is perfect! I've used similar products in commercial kitchens, so I know how easy it is to use! It attaches effortlessly to KitchenAid mixer. Just keep it stored in the freezer when not in use so that it's always ready!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hummm.... IceCream!!!! Finally... Home Made Ice Cream
I love the ice cream attachment. When I received it as my birthday present the only part that did not fit my mixer was the drive shaft. Contacted KitchenAid and sent it to me at no cost. Now it fits my Pro Line 7. I made multiple ice creams already and works perfectly. I read other reviews that mention the bowl is leaking. What I do with mine is, first I do not get my freezer to the coldest settings, as mention in the instructions. The gel in the bowl freezes great, since it is the same type of gel use for the gel packs and it stays cold for hours outside of the freezer. Second, I do not get the bowl to touch the ice, I have a plastic mixing bowl and I put the ice cream bowl inside. And last, the instruction said when you are done with the bowl is to wash it in warm water. Here, what I do is I let the ice cream bowl to be at room temperature and the ice melted away and on them I wash it, otherwise you get the plastic to expand too fast and it will leak. I never store it in the freezer has mention in the instructions, I only put it in the freezer when I plan to make ice cream. To this day, no leaks!!! Hope those tips can help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Messy Molly Read and Follow the Tips
I've used the ice cream attachment once and learned a valuable lesson: reading is fundamental! My mistake was that my batter was too thick and I couldn't figure out how to pour the batter into the mixer while the blade was moving and not make a mess. So, I stopped the mixer after I'd spooned in some of the batter. BIG MISTAKE. Per the instructions, you MUST NOT STOP the mixer once you've started pouring batter. I tried to restart it and the blade was stuck. I mixed the ice cream by hand intermittently over 30 minutes (which still worked amazingly well because it freezes the ice cream in the bowl). I rated 4 on "ease of use" because I still can't figure out how to get the batter in the bowl without making a mess.

We have used it twice so far - once for gelato & once for ice cream. This is our 3rd ice cream maker but this one does the best job of mixing by far - excellent product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Jarrett Kerpan Leaks Blue Fluid
I bought this for my wife and we used it that first summer about 3 times. We got it back out this summer and the first time we started using it, it started leaking blue fluid in the freezer. This seems to be a very common issue with this device. I would advise anyone not to purchase this ice cream maker as it will probably only function a few times before it breaks.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Ashley Worked Great...While it Lasted
I received the ice cream maker attachment with my kitchenmaid mixer a little less than 6 months ago and was super happy with it when I first received it. I was able to make a multitude of yummy ice creams from it, and it was super easy! A few days ago I noticed some blue fluid leaking ever so slowly from a seam where the back peg/protruding piece is on the appliance. (I see no cracks or any trauma :'( ) I loved this attachment, and am super disappointed about the flaw revealing itself just before the summer heat and only after having it for such a short time. I'd recommend this attachment any day, had it not started leaking, but it seems to be a common theme among others as well. I want to replace mine, but am afraid the same may happen again. Kitchenaid, pleaseeee fix this flaw in future models! :(

Rated 1 out of 5 by RaechelleElaine Soupy Milkshake
I received the ice cream bowl as a gift and was super excited. I love everything about my Kitchenaid and thought this would be a fun toy to have in my cupboard. I just attempted to make the strawberry ice cream per the recipe in the provided manual. The bowl sat in the freezer on the coldest setting for 2 days, I measured everything very precisely and added the strawberries at the recommended "5 minutes to go" point in time. However, adding the strawberries seemed to make it worse. They displaced the milky liquid so much that was almost to the top rim of the bowl. The ice cream also seemed to be coming together a little bit, but after the berries were added, the freeze process stopped. I let the bowl go an additional 10 minutes, and when I returned, it was less textured and more like a soupy melting milkshake than anything. Frustrated, I went ahead and transferred my ice cream mixture to an airtight container. It's currently sitting in the refrigerator. I washed the bowl and put that back in the freezer as well. I'm going to try again 15 hours from now but in 2 batches instead of 1 batch and see if that helps. :(

Rated 2 out of 5 by Amanda Another leaker, won't replace this time.
I received one of these as a gift a few years ago and after a short time, it began to leak. I figured it was a fluke and was happy with it up to that point, so I bought a new one without contacting customer service. After a longer time I was again happy with the second one, until I just recently noticed blue leaking from the bottom again. I won't be replacing this one and wasting more money. I'll be researching other brands.
