I had a cutlery set for almost 15 years that we got as a wedding present. They had wooden handles and I felt that after 15 years it was time to upgrade to a newer set.
I bought this set and paid what I thought was good money for a good set of knives that didn't have wooden handles. While I will say they were extremely sharp (as you would assume for a brand new set) they had to be hand washed and dried immediately or they will get rust spots. Not what I expected from STAINLESS STEAL! The knives I had for 15 years never did that. I have owned them for just over six months and already one of the knives has rusted at the handle and then snapped in half while cutting with it. I would like to see something made today last more than a year. Why is everything made today cost more and the quality stinks. Not what I expected out of the Calphalon name and the price I paid!!!!
Oh and the tips of knives are so thin that if you put them in your dish strainer it will bend the tip. Cheap!

From my perspective it looks like it will be great for the newlyweds. Only complaint is the packaging - looked like it was a returned product. Hope we don't find anything wrong when it is opened!

bought this set for my wife . the cutlery is well balanced and super sharp. the wood block match perfectly to are cherry kitchen cabinets. I also order the 2 PC - 8 in slicer and serving fork set. there is 2 extra slots in the block and holds the 8 in slicer knife perfect but not the serving fork . this is the only complaint we have. the block should of been design to hold one. the knifes are all well marked as to what they are on the end of each handle except for the 8 steak knifes . the solid steel knifes rubber grips are perfectly design for your hands to grip them .
you do want to be careful unwrapping them when they arrive. my wife was so scarred of slicing herself because there so sharp. each knife comes with a plastic safety tip for your safety . also when the wood knife block is filled with all the knifes it is heavy.
I have cut up veggie ,potato , bought a whole boneless sirloin was able to slice right though it in a single pass raw with the 8 inch Chiefs knife to turn it into 3 pot roasts and 8 steaks for diffrent meals. I was very impressed with little pressure applyed to the knife .
CON - the wood knife blocks not having a slot to handle the Serving Fork

I haven't had the opportunity to use every single knife in this set yet but WOW! The bread knife is amazing, the Santoku knife is great for slicing, the steak knives are excellent, and the utility knife and paring knife are great!! Okay, okay, so maybe I have used every knife. This block looks beautiful on our kitchen counter as well!

When we registered and received this for our wedding we were very excited. We love the Calphalon cookware we received and assumed this knife set would be of equal quality. While the knives are sharp and work well they are very prone to rusting. If we would have looked more closely and saw they were not dishwasher safe, we would chosen another product. Even when they are hand wash, if they are meticulously dried immediately or they will rust. We have been using them for about 2 months and many of the pieces have areas of rust. Its definitely not worth the money, and we will not be replacing this set with another Calphalon set. The cheap set we had prior to this one never showed any signs of rust, was dishwasher safe, and they were 25% the price.

So sorry that I did not keep my old set. When we bought these we were not careful-- thinking we were buying a set with a lot of different knives. If you look carefully you will see that there are only 7 types of knives, a sharpener and shears. One would think that you have knives for everything, but you don't. If you need a straight serrated knife to cut a tomato you have to use the bread knife or the odd shaped steak knives. Skip this set.
