Rated 5 out of 5 by Carole Sturdy construction
I received my Calpholon Precision Mandolin Slicer as a gift. I was impressed by the appearance and sturdy construction. I also liked the fact that it has a variety of blades that store easily under the unit. I tried the julienne blade to cut potatoes and it worked well once I learned the correct way to position it. I did have a problem with the rubber getting caught but realized I was not holding the food holder correctly. I also liked that it can be placed on a dish when using it.

I just brought this today...6/30/2015...I've tried using it and like someone else said the rubber got cut the first time I used it..I came to the web sight to see if I was doing something wrong...there is a lot of bad reviews..so I don't know if it's me or it...I'll try again after I watch the video..I hope it turns out that I was not using it right because I would love being able to do a lot of veggies at once..I watched the video and it didn't do as it showed..not sure if I'm keeping it..

I recently brought this and found out the hard way that the blades are very sharp. Cut my finger. OUCH. But overall does well with slicing potatoes and tomatoes. Haven't cut anything else as of yet. Cleaning is a chore but I am able to get all the food out of the blades.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Vbudinger DO NOT BUY THIS
I have purchased a lot of Calphalon products over the years, I love Calphalon. But this is not one of those products. I have noticed that about 1 person in 5 has a good experience with this. I found it to be the worst designed product ever. I watched several You Tube demos on this mandoline and others. I replicated all of their techniques. I tried all sorts of veggies. They all got caught and ripped on the V-shaped blade. I did not have one slice of anything that came out nice. Slicing cucumbers was the worst. In addition, slices from the harder veggies, like carrots and parsnips tend to get wedged under the bottom plate. Easily the worst kitchen utensil that I have ever purchased. I cannot believe that Calphalon would put their name on it.

I am a professional cook and I bought this mandolins because of its large cutting area - I make a lot of potatoes Anna/au gratin/etc. - it works perfectly well for my needs. Perhaps the folks who are unhappy with the product are exerting too much pressure on the foodstuff as they attempt to slice? With little or no pressure this tool slices potatoes, carrots, whatever, with ease.

Rated 1 out of 5 by FREDM Does not work
I got this for Christmas. I have two professional chefs in the family who couldn't wait to try it out. It simply didn't work. Slices were not uniform, thickness adjustment was not correct, the waffle cut process simply didn't work, it jammed on everything we tried, julienne d slices came out triangular in shape when we could get them to come out at all.. We returned it the next day.

After getting a set of pots & pans that I liked a lot, I thought the Calphalon mandolin would be really good, too. Since my old cheap mandolin was dull & breaking, I sprang for the Calphalon. My mistake...too many moving parts..the holder is so hard to use, I cut the rubber the first time I used it. Hard to hold onto anything smaller than 3" in diameter. Sorry Calphalon..I want my cheap old mandolin back!

I completely agree with the negative reviews and can't believe the positive ones are real!! I'm really good at dealing with new kitchen tools and gadgets and I can not for the life of me use this Mandolin, the veggies get caught, they get crushed, the gripper doesn't slide well at all. Horrible, stay away!!!
