I think what you have to understand is that when the shades are down, the length probably doesn't matter as much. But if you want them raised, and not covering the window, the extra length when folded up, the accordion, will be thicker proportionate to your window and will block more of the window. So if the shades are mostly closed, no problem if they are open and you want a clear view out the window it might be blocked more than you like cause of the height. I am trying to figure out a better, clearer way of saying this but to no avail. THat said I bought these for almost every room in my house and love them, but they were a perfect fit. Now my daughter wants some for her house and has the same length issue so I have been thinking about this. Hope this helps.
