PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Saratoga cut-to-width roller shade effectively blocks light and ensures privacy, with a light-blocking blackout layer sandwiched between two layers of vinyl. Note: Roller shades will be slightly narrower than the width ordered; to avoid the resulting light gap on each side and to achieve maximum privacy and light control, consider outside mount.

  • cordless product safe for homes with young children and pets
  • cut to the exact width you need from 15" to 73¼" wide
  • embossed vinyl with the look of fabric
  • white on street side except ivory which is the same color on both sides
  • heavy-duty spring roller mechanism allows you to adjust shade to any height

Fits windows up to 64" long. Inside or outside casing installation. Window must be at least ¾" deep for inside mount, 2¼" deep for flush inside mount. Mounting hardware and instructions included. Shades wipe clean with a damp cloth. Imported.

To Order: After measuring your windows, select the size range you need, and the color and quantity and click on "add to bag." You will then be able to specify the exact width you need for your shade. For inside mount, subtract 1/8" from your overall width to account for mounting brackets.

Note: If you are ordering more than one shade within the same size range and want the shades cut to different widths, you must place each shade in the shopping bag separately.

Spring motor roller shades are manufactured with approximately 8” of extra fabric added to the length. This is required for the proper operation of the spring activated roller mechanism.

FREE SWATCH: If you would like to receive a swatch of the fabric prior to ordering the item, please e-mail customerservice@phaseii.com to receive a sample swatch of fabric. Please include your name, address, item description and color that corresponds with your selection. Allow 5 days to receive the swatch.

*Cost savings represent the relative cost of heating or cooling an area to account for heat lost or gained through a window. Savings reflect comparison to a bare single-pane window. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Measure - but do not follow website instructions Purchased for INSIDE MOUNTING and to replace existing Roller Shades (using the same Brackets mounting). This is the first of two reviews ordering the same Roller Shades to different measurements. If you follow the instructions and order the Roller Shades 1/8" smaller then the inside window width, the combination of the Mechanism Design, website direction, and the way the manufacturer cuts the shade will result in a actual White Material Width about 3/4" smaller then an existing Shade, and will most likely not really fit existing brackets. The design of the right-end shade roller pin (See Picture) is different then old shades, the ROUND PIN is on a spring plunger that moves about a 1/4" to allow for slightly off measurements. The problem is the measurements are cut with this plunger fully extended, and therefore does not function as intended. If the Manufacturer would cut the shades 1/4' longer AND you reduce the measurement 1/8" then the shades would most likely fit exiting brackets. See the 2nd review.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from first disappointment... I often buy window coverings here, and am always pleased with the quality. I wanted a light blocking simple shade for my guest room, and purchased three of these. They came in, and since they are "cut to width" they were pre-cut at the specified length I ordered them. They looked as if my three year old had gone down the edges with scissors- horribly uneven and just complete cr@p. On top of that, the first day I had them, I was adjusting them to try to get them the same length, and the spring inside one of the rollers (or however it is kept taut) broke and one of them no longer rolls. I can keep it at the desired length by just rolling it manually then popping it in. If they weren't so dirt cheap, I would return. Its just not worth taking down from my windows and leaving holes where they were in order to do so. I plan on keeping them there for the light blocking aspect and throwing some cheap curtains over them to cover them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 2nd Review - After Re-ordering to modified Dimensions For Inside Mount and using Existing Brackets. This is a 2nd review after receiving my first order of 17 shades. Because of the way the manufacturer cuts the shades and the website direction I returned 11 of these shades, cut 6 of the longer shades down to the size of some of the smaller windows and I re-ordered 11 shades to replace the shades returned. SEE 2 PICTURES.ATTACHED (2 picture limit per review) 1. The Left side of the shade is not changeable and the white shade material was cut straight and smooth on all the shades I received. The Right side on many of the shades had the White Shade material cut some what with a ragged edge. The Right side is modifiable if you have the skill and a Table saw! 2. The 2nd set of shades were ordered to an adjusted size (example= inside window width 35-3/4, CORRECTED width 36.0", ordered width 361/8"). So all of the 2nd set I ordered had about an 1/8" over the window width. Almost all of these I had to modify to fit. Only one or two actually fit, but that was my intent. If you order these to the CORRECTED width they most likely will fit because of the 1/4" of movement in the spring plunger design of these shades.. 3. To modify the shades here is what I did: Manually un-rolled and re-rolled the shades making certain the LEFT side was even, and the shade was tightly rolled. Then I wrapped the end that I wanted to cut with standard Masking tape. I removed the Plastic mechanism which pops out with a wide blade screwdriver. I put the shade back in the clear plastic package during cutting. When I cut the shade on the Table saw I fully raised the blade of the saw, and made only small cuts less then a 1/16" of material at a time until getting to the right size (on the 1st set of shades I modified, .... if I had 6" to remove, I cut off 5-3/4" in one cut, then the rest in 1/6" increments until the final size was achieved). If you don't take light cuts the saw blade will rip into the side of the shade leaving a ragged edge. I also cut the plastic pull on the table saw. All of my shades now fit perfectly, but was a lot of work to achieve. Compare the pictures in this review to the 1st review to see the spring mechanism is fully compressed in my windows, and the distance from the side of the window to the WHITE shade material. When you look at the extended shade in the window you can see horizontal "ripples" that are there. I think and hope these will fade away has the shade hangs in a normal temperature room. The shades were shipped during very cold weather so the ripples are a result during the shipping.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Shades are cut too narrow, quality could be better. This is the second set of roller shades I've ordered from JCP. The first ones were cut too narrow. Instructions on how to measure were followed, but the shades didn't arrive matching the measurement ordered. For this second set, I ordered the maximum width of my windows. This set is still cut too narrow. The shade is cut about 1/4 inch narrower than the rolling mechanism. Consequently, when the shade is pulled down, light shows through the side edge of the blinds. I ordered room darkening shades for a baby's room. Since the light shows at the edge of the blind, I have to pull the curtains over the shades to help darken the room. The shades are so flimsy that when I pull the curtains, the edge of the blind curls and I have to push it back up against the window to block light. Not easy to do while holding an infant. I would not buy these again and would not recommend them for total room darkening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roller Shades No surprises. Looks like pretty good stuff. Can't rate durability yet because I just got the blinds a week ago. Be careful about measuring. I had to modify the mounting bracket to get the roller in place. I blame me for the mis-measurement.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Inexpensive black out window roller shade. The hardware that came with this is very well made, not thin, cheap metal. I used my preexisting hardware. The shade came well packaged. Please be careful when removing the cardboard label collar from the shade; when I was slitting the cellophane wrapper, then the collar, I inadvertently slit the shade fabric. I didn't bother to return or exchange the shade, since I needed the shade right away for an attic window, where the slight tear wouldn't affect me. The fabric is not heavy, but it effectively blacks outs the light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long Lasting These work great and are replacement shades. The new ones are replacing the same ones I had for many years. The previous darker color shades had faded but lasted a long time so I wanted to go with the same kind but in a lighter color.
Date published: 2016-12-30
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as suspected I ordered 10 of these blinds. Followed the directions to subtract 1/8 in. Bad idea. Most of them were too short. Also 3 of the blinds are missing an end. So they need to be returned. I won't get these again.

I would imagine the existing hardware would work if it has the standard latch and hole construction. You can always test the new shade in the existing hardware before replacing the hardware. That would definitely be a time saver.

Thickness of shade
What is the thickness of these shades? I am looking for 12 mm thick shades.

Answer:
These are nowhere near 12 mm; they are closer to the thickness of heavy printer paper. Are you sure you're looking for something that thick? I've never seen that before.

Answer:
I can't believe I wrote 12mm when I meant 12mil. I have found shades in thicknesses from 4mil to 12mil, with the 12mil being the most heavy and light-blocking. That's what I'm looking for, but JCPenney doesn't list the thickness for their blackout shades.

Answer:
The material is quite thin, but totally opaque. A 4' shade, when rolled up has about 12 layers on the roller (so it needs to be thin). You said you were looking for 12mm (which is about 1/2"). If you really need that thickness you probably want to use plywood. :)

By width, do you mean the width of the shade itself, the width of the roller minus the two stems that fit into the holders, or the width of the roller including the two stems?

There is no need to shorten the length. You just pull it down to fit your window and the remainder is on top of the roll.

Answer:
I don't know if manufacturer will cut the length to another size, but I doubt it since there is no room to specify that on the site. However, you can always get the 64", you just have to roll it to your desired length and leave the rest unrolled.

There's a rod in the bottom for weight. You'd be cutting off the rod. I DON'T recommend it. They'll work just fine if they're too long. The extra won't show...no harm done.
