Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lamp shade is different color than the picture shows..... The picture shows an ivory/cream solid colored lamp shade. I purchased two to place in my bedroom thinking they would match my brown and cream colored decor. The shade is actually a yellow/beige color with ivory/cream swirls. Well, the lighting is really bright! Even with a soft bulb. The lamps are tall so when you are in bed you can see the bulbs which are very bright in your face. Not good if you are looking for soft lighting in the bedroom. I have a four month old that still sleeps with me and the rim around the lamp shade rattles loudly everytime I turn on the lamp. The pulls that hang down swing and cling loudly against the metal base. The pulls to turn the lamp on and off work smoothly. When I received the lamp one of the bases were crooked and the other lamp had lots of scratches. I would never pay full price for the lamp but I did receive half off. I will be returning these lamps. Probably better for an office or living room. Oh, and if you purchase these lamps prepare for a mess as the little white foam pieces from the packaging get EVERYWHERE.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from i love this lamp...but i really love this lamp and want to keep it, but when you sit down near it - the bulbs shine right in your eyes. I wonder, do people who design lamps ever try them out to see if they're functional?! This lamp is quality and beautiful to look at, goes great with my furnishings, but the lamp shade should have been about 2" deeper - enuff to cover the bulbs, so they wouldn't shine in your face when your sitting next to it! I hate to have to pack it back up and return it, but know i won't be happy with it in the long run. Shame, too - i wanted to buy another to match!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This lamp is the "light of my life." The lamp's classic design is contemporary in its simplicity yet reminiscent of a more romantic, bygone era. As a desk lamp in my home office, it is stunning against the deep cherry finish of the built-in mahogany desk, while its height and the versatility afforded by the two independent bulbs make it ideal for illuminating the work area of whatever task is at hand. Also deserving of mention is the frosted, swirled glass shade, which provides the perfect finishing touch to this timeless beauty. And because of its heavy steel base, the lamp is sturdier than most of similar price available today, commonly having resin bases. Compared to others I've seen in the same price range, this lamp is deceptively inexpensive, a superb value. All in all, I could not be more satisfied with my purchase! Suggestion: Some reviewers have complained that the shade is too shallow, causing the bulbs to be visible below it. A simple solution is to use two clear ceiling-fan bulbs (A15), which are smaller than conventional incandescent bulbs and better-suited, in my opinion, to decorative and/or antique-look lighting situations (sorry, I conserve energy wherever I possibly can but really dislike the harshness of CFL and LED lighting in a "vintage" lamp so allow myself a rare exception in this case). The ceiling-fan bulbs give softer light and are available in both 60w and 40w; I find the latter -- used singly or together, depending on the task -- quite adequate for my home office needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Too tall for desktops This is a very attractive lamp and seems to be well-constructed. The base is heavy; but the lamp is taller than I expected. I was hoping to use it on a desk, but the bulbs shine in my eyes. Assembly was easy (except for putting the rim on the shade; I first put it on upside down). There is more length of wire (inside the sleeve) than is needed; so stuff the wire in the sleeve first; I think that would be easier than when partially assembled. With these thoughts in mind this is a nice purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the picture I bought these lamps to set off a craftsman-era bedroom set that I had made. If I hadn't really liked the lamps, they would have gone back to Penney's immediately. Turns out, I think they're great. They are very well-made and look expensive. Certainly they are distinctive. Overall, if you are attracted to the pictured lamps, the reality is a definite, "Wow!" Also, the chain pulls are easier to find in the dark and the one-or-both 60w bulbs are perfect for decor or reading.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful affordable lamps greart price on lamps that fit into my decor and even have shades that match my ceiling fan - i love the simple lines and although the metal color was a little dark to me at the beginning, i find that they fit just fine!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try smaller bulbs I agree with the other reviews that the shade is a little too small. When my husband was setting it up, he even had a hard time getting standard size bulbs to go in. They were very tight against the shade. When he turned it on, I was blinded by the bulbs peeking out from underneath. Then we tried some smaller, decorative type bulbs you might use in a clear globe, and they fit great. We can no longer see them sticking out. It still provides plenty of light. And the lamp looks really nice! BTW- the shade is definitely more gold in color than it shows in the picture. It is not the ivory color you see, but that actually works better for our decor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from beautiful lamp I really like this lamp for its classic design. The height also works for me because it gives the lamp some substance. One thing to note is that there isn't enough room to screw in a type-A bulb with the shade on. You must take the shade off, which is annoying but not a deal breaker as it's not something you do everyday. However, the glass shade will touch the 2 type-A bulbs so the shade will get hot! I use 2 spiral fluorescent bulbs instead. They are smaller so they don't touch the shade and in general not as hot as their incandescent counterpart.
