Rated 3 out of 5 by Room for improvement I have used this attachment for over a year. I haven't experienced any of the issues posted by other reviewers (i.e. metal shavings on the meat, oil residues, etc.). Several design flaws as with other KA attachments: The hooper could be certainly bigger and a food tray should be default with the grinder (instead of having to buy an additional accessory). The plastic pusher is probably one of the worst ideas. It is basically a thin stick with a plate at the end. Instead of properly pushing the meat downwards sends small pieces back up when you push! This becomes worst if you try to pass the grounded meat for second time through the grinder to achieve a very thin grind. A full cylinder fitting inside the feeding tube would have been a much better option. All plastic construction is not my preferred material, particularly for handling meat, however it does the job. Since the grinder is a mono-piece, cleaning the inner parts properly is not very easy. May 4, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to use Easy to Clean I have been using the meat grinder for two years and LOVE it. Take your time. I buy a sirloin roast, chuck roast, and either Tri tip or beef short ribs and grind them and use this mix for burgers .etc.. Cut the meat into chunks then feed it through the grinder. I typically stop after each roast, take off the blade and clean off the disc because you get a fat bulid up..this takes seconds to do. Once I am done i often switch to the smaller hole disc and grind it for a second time. When finished, take off the front, remove any discs and wash in hot soapy water. Tap the metal part sticking out on the grinder and it pops right out for cleaning. You can clean this by hand with a bottle brush or put it in a top rack in your dishwasher. It literally takes minutes to clean it.When it's dry, assemble it, and store it for the next time. Your meat smells and tastes much fresher than prepackaged meats. Love this attachment and I use mine at least two to four times a month. March 25, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Leaks grease into you food I LOVE my Kitchen Aid stand mixer. I use it all the time for baking and cooking. For that purpose it works great. However, I have purchased the meat/food grinder attachement. My intention was to make homemade ground beef pattys for burgers. The machine will not grind the steak or roast to burger. It gets clogged right away. Even worse that the few bits of ground burger that make it out are coated in black greese from the axle. This machine is not cut out for use as a food grinder. I'm very unhappy with this aspect. More so disappointed. Much of my reason to invest in Kitchen Aid was because of the various accessories compatable with the machine. July 29, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Terrible food grinder. Unless you like Grease. Wasted several pounds of ham. Ran some through, looked great then noticed ALOT of black particles. Pulled the grinder apart, and the axle was covered in grease, also coating all the meat. Nice design boys. August 9, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Does the job as long as it lasts This is the second FGA I've had in the last 15 years..first one was used maybe 10 times in 5 years or so and then the housing split apart. Tossed it and then bought a new one, have had it for about a year now and it gets used maybe twice a month and where the set screw for where it attaches to the mixer has basically drilled out. Now the set screw is biting into the drive shaft. Trying to decide if I want to buy another one of these or buy a completely separate one.. July 26, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for what I do. I have had this food grinder for several years and use it constantly. I use it to grind the cooked vegetables when I make my own salsa (tomatoes, onions, garlic, hot peppers). I bake the vegetables and then run them through the coarse grinder to get a chunky but consistent consistency. I could easily put them in a food processor or blender, but prefer the chunkiness from the bigger grinder die than the smoothness from a blender or processor. This thing works perfectly and consistently and always gives great results. The only issue I have had with it are that pressing the juicy vegetables down the chute with the wooden press will occasionally put too much pressure and cause the ground veges to squirt out the die & beyond the bowl or to squirt back up the food chute - but I attribute this to my over-pressing the food to speed up the process. Simply turning up the speed does a better job of grinding quicker. Let me add this disclaimer: I do not grind meat with it. I don't grind venison, boar, or even beef for burgers or chili. But, for my use in grinding vegetables, this does a perfect job every time. May 15, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Good Idea - mediocre execution i've been using this attachment on my food processor for the past week to make ground pork for dumplings but no matter how tightly i screw on the plate, the ground meat starts pouring out of the sides of the screw cap, ultimately clogging the grinder. it could have been an amazing attachment that would have been a big time saver but now i rarely use it unless i'm forced to. please fix the design so that the ground meat doesn't just seep out all over the place... Rated 2 out of 5 by Not the best. I have had the mixer for a few years and it is awesome at mixing stuff and whipping cream. I got into home made penut butter , hunting, and sausage making. The grinder handles peanuts just fine but quickly heats up and I'm afraid I'm going to burn it out like I did the last 2 blenders I used. Blenders are cheap, kitchen aid machines not so. I tryed preccessing a deer and it took me almost 4 hours to grind 16 lb of venison. I had to clean the gunk and connective tissue every half pound. I had it trimmed, cubed, and nearly frozen. I thought it was just the venison but I had to clean the plate and blade twice grinding 1 lb of pork shoulder. To make maters worse it chracked! I have 3 cracks where the unit attaches to the machine and one where the feed tube meets the body. I have food coming out of that second crack. Love the mixer, hate the grinder. I got a dedicated grinder and a sausage stuffer. December 9, 2015
