Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did not work I had my contractor install this unit at my residence today. I was excited to finally have all my appliances in and was glad the stress was over. Unfortunately I found that the start button was not working on the unit. The fan and other buttons were working fine but the start button would not respond at all. I further discovered that the interior light would not turn off when I closed the microwave door. This microwave feels cheaply made and I wish I had spent a little more on a nicer unit. This is frustrating because now I am having to schedule a service appointment for what is supposed to be a brand new appliance. I would just take it back then I would have to uninstall everything which is also a pain. This was a added stress that I did not want or need and would have preferred to avoid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, solid microwave We've had this microwave for 3 months now, and it is a good, solid microwave. It is lacking a few features we'd come to love with our old microwave, namely the ability to set the light underneath the microwave to go on/off at scheduled times. A basic feature, but one I miss, nonetheless. Also, the "Cook Time" and "Timer On/Off" buttons should switch places, as I hit the timer button by accident most times when I'm going to enter in the cooking time (if it's not a 1-/2-/3-minute long cook time, for which you can just use the corresponding numbers on the number pad as a quick-start shortcut). The button placement as-is just doesn't make logical sense and is an irritant quite frequently. I do wish the handle and door felt a little more well-built and required less force to open/close, but they still work fine for what it is, just doesn't have quite the quality of our old other brand microwave.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OTR Microwave I bought 4 appliances, about 1 month ago. I love the Slate color, and having the extra space on my counter! I have only 1 issue with the microwave. The filters for the exhaust, keep popping out when I close the door, so I rated the quality 4 stars. This has happened 4 times. Otherwise, it is easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product...but obvious room for improvement I purchased the new GE microwave to replace the 8 year old GE I had previously.(The old door malfunctioned). My old one also had 1000 Watts and seems to cook everything quickly and evenly. I really like that this model has one button cook options for minutes 1 through 6. I don't understand why this is so rare for microwaves at the same price point. 90% of the time don't we all say to ourselves " I need to cook this for 1 ( or 2 or 3 minutes)"? And if we need to add 30 sec to that, there's a one touch button for that too! It seems so obvious. The one thing I don't like about this model is the installation was a monster. The template they gave was confusing and almost useless. Also the charcoal filter installation was insanely difficult, mostly because the grill could not come off as the instructions said it would. Also this new model's window is way less transparent, so I have no idea if my hot dog is about to explode. C'mon GE! That's basic engineering for customer satisfaction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great match to our other slate GE products Microwave works very well. The only problem is that the keyboard is not back-lighted and therefore I have to turn on the kitchen light to see the buttons, an inconvenience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my new over-the-range microwave. Perfect size and has all the options I need to take care of my cooking needs. This one is a bit smaller in overall size than several I had looked at which is exactly what I was looking for as it gives me more free space in using my range cooktop. Even my neighbor commented on how much she liked it compared to hers. Great planning on the part of GE to design one of this size and still provide all the options. The only option that I had on my old counter top microwave that this one does not have is one for cooking vegetables either fresh or frozen and my new one does not have those options but I love the rest of it so much I can easily learn a new way to cook my veggies. This model has nice clean lines to it and I really like the design of where the vented air comes out. SIMPLY...A VERY NICE MICROWAVE!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what we needed to replace an old GE microwave I studied via Consumer Reports and this was what we needed as we didn't use all the features on the oven we were replacing. The average life of a microwave is 8 years but the old GE was installed in 2003. This confirmed the durability and report that CR had reported. I installed it myself and I am not a handyman genius. However, I was patient in making my measurements which turned out to be just right. The old bracket had to be replaced with the new one and it wasn't difficult; although the previous installer did me no favors so I did have to do some workaround. I used the bottom bracket's center V notch as the reference point to make pencil lines on the wall and underneath the overhead cabinet shelf so I could take the template measurements and measure from the center overhead. I also double checked by measuring the new microwave points of contact etc. I added 3/8 inches to the measurement from the back wall to the front where the holes were for the overhead bolts. Perfect! It was easy to rotate the fan so that the vent was into the room. I drilled a 1 1/2 inch hole for the power cord instead of the 2 inch and it was fine. I won't go into how the previous installer made it more of a challenge but I didn't have to call GE for help. It just took some common sense and patience. I also installed the charcoal filter before hanging the microwave. Hope this helps someone. You can do it even if the cabinet isn't like one of the options in the directions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, but not quite as nice as the old one This unit installed fairly easy, however the instructions could have been a little clearer (for example: the 1/4 inch border on the layout needing to be eliminated should have been mentioned). I like that this unit can be installed vented or ventless - excellent feature for those thinking of possibly upgrading in the future. One of the things I'm not wild about is the stiffness of opening the door which is much harder then my old unit. The other, which may be a larger issue, is taking the top fascia off - this needs to be done to replace the carbon filter if you run ventless. If you read the directions or watch the GE-produced videos, it looks effortless but it is surely not! It takes a great deal of effort and a downward rolling technique to get the thing off (and quite a bit of banging to get it back on!).
