The first dishwasher I got to install under our granite countertop vented out the top, and the steam made the granite turn colors and look bad. Had to replace the dishwasher to a front vent, which now needs replacement again.
Hello Beach. This is Lida at GE Appliances. The GDF610PSJSS has a front vent, so steam will come out at the front left corner of the door at the top. Steam rises, so some moisture could possibly hit the countertop edge, though most of the steam will dissipate before hitting your counter. If you want a model that has a Hidden Vent, the GDF650SMJES may work well for you.
With a Hidden Vent, the vent is concealed inside the dishwasher door. This provides a clean appearance, seals in sound during the wash cycle, and protects against venting damage to countertops such as Corian or granite. Air is pulled from the tub with a fan that moves moist air down a condensation tube, where any remaining drops of moisture are released to a moisture proof trough in the lower inner door. Remaining moisture then drains back into the bottom of the tub and away from the dish load.
