Rated 4 out of 5 by from Same size as old one (almost) We bought this to replace worn out GE microwave of very similar size, mounted under cabinet. This is the third GE microwave in this location in over 25 years, so we're happy with previous performance of these products. However, all three units have different mounting, so now we have three sets of mounting holes (12 total) drilled through shelf unit mounts under. Too bad engineering department couldn't have passed on same mounting layout configuration over the years. This unit also has fewer features (i.e. sensor cooking), but has a hefty price. Looking forward to long lasting appliance.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as it used to be... Our old 1992 GE SpaceSaver finally gave out. We bought this as a replacement. It's tinny, had sharp edges on the door, you can't read the buttons even though it's eye level. People said it burned microwave popcorn. I thought it was because they used the popcorn button. I used it like I used to use the old one. Used power level 3 and stopped the turntable and it still burned. The one thing I do like about it is the turntable and the fact that you can turn it off if you want to. I didn't have that in my old one. If you don't need a space saving oven, I would not recommend this one. We had to have it because of the space on the shelf we have for an oven over our stove.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for small, awkward cabinet spaces We recently bought this to replace a previous GE Spacemaker microwave model that died (and was at least 15 years old). Pros - great for the space, super easy and convenient to use, unobnoxious beep when finished. Cons - Lots of wasted space with the turntable in its middle location. I preferred the non-turntable previous version because all of the interior space was easily usable. (Dear GE - offset the turntable and open up more space to the side! Win-win if you do that!) Not as powerful as microwaves a step above in size.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent product with life was longer I had at least 4 of these spacesaver microwaves over 20 years. It would great if they could last as long as a conventional oven (going on 40 years). Every five years when I replace it, GE changes the under cabinet screw holes. Why can't they keep the screw holes in the same place. My cabinet is looking like swiss cheese (4 installs, 4 new holes each time for a total of 20 holes.). I continue to buy this product because it is the only one with diminisions I need. I would choose another brand if I could.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from why the different hanging brackets? This is the third space saving ge microwave that I have bought since 1987 when I remodeled my kitchen which I hung under my cabinet to save counter space. This one they changed the configuration of the hanging brackets so you would have to buy a different set to hang it! Why? The size is the same it must be so they will sell you another bracket set and you will have to drill more holes in your cabinets or is it just the money? Being a hobbyist machinist I modified the old brackets to fit (I did have to drill different set of holes in the bottom of my cabinet to line up the screw holes-they offset the hanging plug holes on the top of the unit)but it is in and secure and only took me a few hours and some swearing but it is done. The only reason I buy this unit is because I can't find another unit that mounts under the cabinet without a built-in shelf to have the unit sit on. Overall I get enough use out of the unit (in years) to keep me coming back even though the features have not changed but they are all basic and enough for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Appearance This one is not as attractive as the last one we had that was the same one but an older model of the same microwave. This one vents from the sides and sticks out of the custom cabinet. We also had to buy a new trim kit because this one didn't fit in the one from our last microwave. It really made the job quite complicated! It seems to work good and is quieter that the last.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quiet I bought this to replace a Spacesaver II as it fits the space. The first thing I noticed was that the new microwave was much quieter than the previous one. Almost wondered if it wasn't working. You should be advised that the screw holes on the new over are slightly different than the previous (of course!) So you might need to buy the installation kit as well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Previous model better, and it wasn't that great I bought this to replace my less than 5 year old GE profile b/c it is the only mid-capacity microwave that fits my space. The previous model melted inside, so I was hoping to find something else, but couldn't. First impression, not good: first of all, the dimensions given are not correct. Due to the way the cord attaches in back, the depth is about 14 inches. This was a crucial figure for us, so the unit hangs off the shelf. Also, the underneath housing is bright silver and very visible (black and more discreet in the previous model). Don't believe those photos on the website - if you hang it or set it eye level, you will see all the works that have been air-brushed out of the photos. There are fewer features and the light inside isn't as bright. The only feature I have tried is the "beverage" button. After a few minutes, it said there were 4 minutes left. Really? We checked and the water was near boiling. So, I wonder if the sensor works? You can bet I'll be testing this thing out thoroughly.
