Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stackable new fave Bought this because we were concerned about space, and the idea of having 1 thing instead of 2 was appealing. We were dubious about having a stackable unit at first, but we love it now! It is convenient having to simply move laundry up and down and having all of the controls in one place for both. The unit is quieter than normal units, probably due to the weight keeping it from moving around. It also cleans things AMAZINGLY! The spin cycle gets things dryer than any other washing machine I've used. It is also very fast. Under 30 minutes to wash and under an hour to dry most loads. BEWARE: Do not overload. Do not mix washables, for instance, blankets and towels is a no, jeans and sheets is a no. Do things separately in smaller loads.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a year old and multiple repairs needed Our contractor purchased this unit for our vacation home to fit into a remodeled laundry area. The unit was installed in January and used for the first time in April. In August it stopped working (would not complete the spin cycle). It was repaired the third week in September. After exactly 4 loads of laundry, it's broken again. Different issue, but still, it doesn't work. I expected far better workmanship from GE than has been exhibited in this machine. I have several other GE appliances and this is the first that has been a problem. If it doesn't work for even one year without worry, I expect this unit is a lemon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fixed Better Than New My washer bit the dust right before my warranty expired. I had the good fortune of getting an excellent GE Service Tech who knew what he was doing. Now my washer runs better than when I first purchased it. If you purchase any appliance these days it's best to buy an extended warranty on it, especially if you spend a lot. GE has great appliances, however you have to understand that no appliance made these days is made like they were years ago. But finding a really good service individual is hard to come by. I was extremely fortunate. I am still happy to have this washer/dryer combo and understanding the working parts. I would recommend the product. Just get that extended warranty when making large purchases and understand nothing made today is made to last. I'm still very happy with my purchase

Rated 1 out of 5 by from dryer leaving black marks on clothes The dryer has been leaving black marks on our clothes since we bought it. Also clothes are getting pinched between the drum and dryer. We have had three service calls. We live at the beach and the tech stated that these dryers have a problem with sand. After the first service call we tried to make sure clothes were sand free before we dried them but nothing seems to work. The black marks are permanent and are ruining our clothes. During the last service call GE said they could no longer do anything and would charge us in the future. Tech stated that they needed a fix but GE didn't offer. Tech has been nice but there seems to be no fix. I wish we new that this was a problem because I would not have bought this appliance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2 service calls in less than 3 months I bought this machine and within the first month the basket broke! and after 3 month the dryer was not drying. 2 service calls in less than 3 months. Also, The washing machine in the lowest setting ripped a twin comforter, towel and most of undergarments. Not a good buy, consider buying another brand as the company sold a defective unit and only willing to repair. it's not normal to have 2 repairs within the first 3 months. imagine what will happen when the warranty expires.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unitized washer/dryer I bought this stacked unit because of space issues. I had an identical unit that was 12 years old that I really enjoyed. I should have read the reviews prior to purchase. It makes grinding noises when washing and sounds like a helicopter taking off when it spins. I had a technician out within 2 weeks because I figured something must be wrong. Not! Terrible design! I'm sure the new design saved GE money but I must say I'm very disappointed.

Answer:
Hello bigvic - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. The washer basket is a pure white "molded", not stamped, plastic tub with drain holes in the side of the basket and on the bottom. It provides a smooth surface around the basket hole that will not snag or damage delicate articles of clothing. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!
