It really depends on the height of your mattress; low profile or regular height taking into account the thickness of the mattress only. I have a low profile set on my queen bed (11" thick mattress) and a wooden frame. The queen quilt fits perfectly covering the mattress with just enough left to tuck into the wooden frame (can't see the boxspring because of the wooden frame). If you have a high queen bed, you might want to buy a king size to have enough to cover the mattresses. This quilt is not designed to go to the floor but rather fit like a traditional quilt as shown in the picture. If you don't want the frame to show on your bed; then, yes, I would suggest purchasing a bedskirt. But, again, keep in mind the height of your boxspring and bedframe - 5" or 9" is standard size boxspring. Most bedskirts have a 14" plus drop and it could be too long.
