Pick them up, put them on, you can instantly tell these are sturdy, high-quality boots. This particular style looks good -- understated and attractive. They're also relatively lightweight and they're versatile, so go backpacking or go to a bar... these boots are solid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Laurence B Awesome boots!!! The most comfortable shoes I have
My 13 years old son decided he wanted to start backpacking, I wanted to encourage his new healthy hobby, so we planned an overnight hiking trip. I am 47 over weight with chronic knee and back pain, so I decided I needed a good pair of hiking boots. I have bought lots of boots, but all gave me knee/back pain after walking a mile or so. I liked the 6 month comfort guarantee so I figured I had nothing to lose. We started with couple or 3-5 mile hikes through southern Michigan marsh lands – they broke in quickly, feet stayed dry and comfortable all day. The big test came on our overnight trip, over 2 days we hiked over 17 miles, up and down 15 muddy steep hills, and I was amazed that I finished with NO knee or back pain. I will definitely buy more hi-tec boots, next pair is for my son. Thank you Hi-Tec, for selling a good quality boot at a reasonable price, so that I can share the special time and adventure with my son.

I had been wearing Altitude IVs for 15 or 20 years, using them for both hiking and day-to-day wear. I've always been satisfied with them, although I noticed my last pair wore out more quickly than usual. So when I noticed that Hi Tec now had an Altitude V, I decided to give them a try. Big mistake. Despite trying to break them in for weeks around the house, they never got comfortable. When I used them for the first time for hiking, a three-day 34-mile trip, the result was a divot dug into the top of my right foot that is only now starting to heal and a damaged nail that looks like it will fall off on my left foot. I'm going to give the Altitude Lite a try this time, and I sure hope that my experience with the Altitude V and my most recent pair of Altitude IVs is not indicative of an overall decrease in quality at Hi Tec, since they have been my boot of choice for a very long time.

An eyelet popped out 6 months after I bought these. Hi-Tec replaced these with Brand Spanking New boots within 10 days. I am very pleased with their help. AND my feet missed these, they are very comfortable on my feet

For the past 5 years, I have been replacing these boots with new versions of themselves. I won't wear any other shoe. I had one heck of a time finding good durable footwear for women - men seem to get all the good boots, but not with Hi-Tec! I am an avid hiker. I am a dog handler. It's safe to say I am on my feet quite a lot and these are the only boots that can deal with it. Not to mention, they are comfortable! I will say though, to people looking to buy these for the first time: there is a breaking in period where the ankle leather is still stiff. It will hurt, haha - but only for about a week. I recommend going on a moderate hike to break them in before you try to wear them to work, or you'll be sore!

I bought these boots a year ago. I hadn't worn them very much before I went on a 2014 Father's Day weekend 20 mile backpacking trip with my daughter, her husband, and her husband's father. It was unusually wet and we had a lot of of small stream crossings. The boots were very comfortable, and kept my feet dry the whole time. The boots were comfortable out of the box. Before the hike I had gone on 3 walks totaling 10 miles to break the boots in and condition myself. I don't think the boots needed to be broken in (Always break your boots in, even if they don't need it! Consider it a test run.), but I needed the conditioning. I hadn't been backpacking in 40 years, I used my old backpack, sleeping bag, and other gear, but was delighted to have a new pair of boots. The boots and the company made the trip very enjoyable.
My feet are size 15, so I have a difficult time finding footwear, these come in up to size 17. That made me feel comfortable in ordering the boots. Both my son-in-law and his father recommended the boots to me.
In the picture the Dads are on the ends, I am wearing a yellow shirt.

I bought these after reading many reviews. Some said that the shoes cracked and split in the front where they flex. Well, mine split in two weeks, and split open on the inside of the left shoe where they flex from walking. Sent an email and received NO ANSWER from the so called customer service! Love the shoes but the FACT that they don't backup their product is very disappointing. It is not like i payed $30.00 for these shoes, $90.00 should get a shoe with SOME design for a long lasting shoe. Would not buy again after wasting $90.00!!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Velma New lace eyes cut the strings
My husband has been wearing this boot for about 20 years, and has loved them. They are immediately comfortable. However the new design on the eyelets are narrow and sharp. Upon the first lace up it cut the shoestrings. I bought some leather strings and it cut them. The design is bad and the build of them is flawed.
