Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't last with regular use I've worn hi tec altitude shoes for several years now, mostly as a work boot with occasional hiking as well. I'm very happy with the level of comfort they deliver while still protecting my feet from the elements. I also like the outstanding traction they deliver while working on a roof. However, I have been really disappointed with the poor quality of the altitude V. I've owned a few pairs and they all fall apart within a few months for no particular reason. Granted I do wear them every day for work but I simply don't give them the hard use that would justify wearing out so quickly. They simply fall apart, with the upper separating from the sole particularly in the toe area. The uppers also develop holes around the toe area. These are great for occasional hiking but they just aren't built for regular use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome boots!!! The most comfortable shoes I have My 13 years old son decided he wanted to start backpacking, I wanted to encourage his new healthy hobby, so we planned an overnight hiking trip. I am 47 over weight with chronic knee and back pain, so I decided I needed a good pair of hiking boots. I have bought lots of boots, but all gave me knee/back pain after walking a mile or so. I liked the 6 month comfort guarantee so I figured I had nothing to lose. We started with couple or 3-5 mile hikes through southern Michigan marsh lands – they broke in quickly, feet stayed dry and comfortable all day. The big test came on our overnight trip, over 2 days we hiked over 17 miles, up and down 15 muddy steep hills, and I was amazed that I finished with NO knee or back pain. I will definitely buy more hi-tec boots, next pair is for my son. Thank you Hi-Tec, for selling a good quality boot at a reasonable price, so that I can share the special time and adventure with my son.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice looking and very functional I needed a boot for wearing in the winter and found these at a local store. I love the looks of these and the smooth brown leather which goes great with jeans or khakis. They are stiff at first but they are getting better every time I wear them. These have great traction on the ice which is what I was looking for along with being waterproof. These are rugged enough to walk the trails yet will clean up nicely to wear to church and everyday wear!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged! I have had a pair of these for 4 years and still have not worn them out...I wear them almost every day! They fit perfectly, are still completely waterproof after days of climbing and kneeling...never have worn out! I'm purchasing another pair just in case these ever give out. Highly recommend this shoe!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough all around boot for all conditions I purchased a pair of the Altitude V boots specifically for a trek of Kilimanjaro. I put them to the test during my break in period: rain, snow, mud, creeks & hiking. They are comfortable and truly waterproof, probably the best waterproof boot I have ever owned period. I was extremely pleased with them so I used them for my climb of Kilimanjaro in Africa.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable I bought these boots a year ago. I hadn't worn them very much before I went on a 2014 Father's Day weekend 20 mile backpacking trip with my daughter, her husband, and her husband's father. It was unusually wet and we had a lot of of small stream crossings. The boots were very comfortable, and kept my feet dry the whole time. The boots were comfortable out of the box. Before the hike I had gone on 3 walks totaling 10 miles to break the boots in and condition myself. I don't think the boots needed to be broken in (Always break your boots in, even if they don't need it! Consider it a test run.), but I needed the conditioning. I hadn't been backpacking in 40 years, I used my old backpack, sleeping bag, and other gear, but was delighted to have a new pair of boots. The boots and the company made the trip very enjoyable. My feet are size 15, so I have a difficult time finding footwear, these come in up to size 17. That made me feel comfortable in ordering the boots. Both my son-in-law and his father recommended the boots to me. In the picture the Dads are on the ends, I am wearing a yellow shirt.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Painful I had been wearing Altitude IVs for 15 or 20 years, using them for both hiking and day-to-day wear. I've always been satisfied with them, although I noticed my last pair wore out more quickly than usual. So when I noticed that Hi Tec now had an Altitude V, I decided to give them a try. Big mistake. Despite trying to break them in for weeks around the house, they never got comfortable. When I used them for the first time for hiking, a three-day 34-mile trip, the result was a divot dug into the top of my right foot that is only now starting to heal and a damaged nail that looks like it will fall off on my left foot. I'm going to give the Altitude Lite a try this time, and I sure hope that my experience with the Altitude V and my most recent pair of Altitude IVs is not indicative of an overall decrease in quality at Hi Tec, since they have been my boot of choice for a very long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Boot abuse I am a UPS package car driver and have been through about seven pairs of Altitude boots. They see all kinds of abuse from extreme weather to nail riddled walk paths and every concrete walk path in my area. Never had a pair last more than a year but they give excellent protection and good durability under the extreme circumstances they are subjected too..
