Rated 3 out of 5 by from Comfort? Yes. Waterproof? Not even a little. I've been wearing these boots pretty regularly for about two months. The comfort level is quite high; especially right out of the box, there was really no break in period. The materials seem strong, I've seen no wear to speak of. The laces are not good. Or at least they are not good for this boot. They shred where they contact the upper hook very quickly. My biggest complaint, and the reason I am on this web-site, is the waterproofing. I went hunting down an old road. This road was not overgrown and there was very little grass. It was raining. It took less than an hour for my feet to be COMPLETELY soaked. Now, I wasn't expecting to have dry feet after walking through a creek, or trudging through knee high grass all day, but I've had old tennis shoes with better waterproofing than this. Very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just replaced a pair I had for 10 years. Hi-Tec has been making this same shoe for ages. Old pair was purchased in or around 2005. Wore holes in the soles and was getting wet socks during rain events. I was surprised to see these were still production. The uppers on the old ones are still in perfect shape except for a small cut which was not a manufacturing defect. Hope the new pair holds up as well as the retired pair did.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Boot, Not for rough Gravel though! These boots are comfortable and have a short break in period. I work on a gravel lot about 4 acres in size. after about 5.5 months the soles break down and crack in the heal area. The soles are hollow and are separated by compartments kind of like a square honey comb. After the soles crack they get rocks stuck up inside the compartments of the sole. It takes needle nose pliers to get them out. Shortly there after the insoles break down and you feel the compartments on the sole of your foot. They become unwearable. 6 months wear at most . A gravel surface I think is the worst to have to work on, uneven and unforgiving. Would be nice if they filled these compartments in the sole with a soft cushioning material like foam rubber or something similar. I have had three pair of these boots each end up the same. I have given up on them and am still searching for boots that hold up to a Gravel surface.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, Except! I have been a satisfied Hi-Tec hiking boot customer for over 40 years. On this pair I notice that the laces do not slide easily through the metal triangles on the sides of the boot. This makes it difficult to tighten when lacing and even more difficult to loosen when taking them off. I think the lace gets "bound/pinched" in the angle of the triangle. I would suggest you change that triangle shape to a D-ring shape with circular side of the D facing the middle of the tongue. This would allow the lace to move freely. It should also extend the life of the lace by not "pinching" it at one stress point. And definitely order the widest one because they run a little narrow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Boots Besides taking over a week and a half to get it mail order from Cali to Hawaii, the boots are great. I love Hi-Tec boots and this particular model isn't available locally. There was a model similar to it but when I wore it (I'm 10.5) at Sports Authority, felt tight. so I ordered these a half size up and I was spot-on on the size. You need to order these boots a half size bigger than your feet! Especially if you wear thick hiking socks like I do. Tried them on, walked around a little and it felt real good and comfy. The design is great, waterproof is a plus, and the outsoles are super. I love what I ordered!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Survived the John Muir Trail! I love this boot! I am female, and bought this style to give myself more toe room. I was planning to hike the John Muir Trail, and tried several boot options from REI. I found them all to be hideously uncomfortable, and ended up wearing my Hi-Tecs for the entire, 200+ miles of the JMT. They were comfortable, stayed dry during rain and water crossings, and I never got a single blister.
