Neither. They have 2 little ties to secure the front and back together. It is not snug and obviously leaves a gap inbetween. I didn't expect this but it looks OK-sort of a "cottage look" and it's in the back. FYI: I just bought a new bed and didn't think about the extra depths of the mattress and box spring. The bedspread, which I thought would touch the floor, does not. It is up about 3" from the floor. Still it looks lovely.
