Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to use Easy to Clean I have been using the meat grinder for two years and LOVE it. Take your time. I buy a sirloin roast, chuck roast, and either Tri tip or beef short ribs and grind them and use this mix for burgers .etc.. Cut the meat into chunks then feed it through the grinder. I typically stop after each roast, take off the blade and clean off the disc because you get a fat bulid up..this takes seconds to do. Once I am done i often switch to the smaller hole disc and grind it for a second time. When finished, take off the front, remove any discs and wash in hot soapy water. Tap the metal part sticking out on the grinder and it pops right out for cleaning. You can clean this by hand with a bottle brush or put it in a top rack in your dishwasher. It literally takes minutes to clean it.When it's dry, assemble it, and store it for the next time. Your meat smells and tastes much fresher than prepackaged meats. Love this attachment and I use mine at least two to four times a month. March 24, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Complete waste of time and money We've had this for a few months and were really looking forward to grinding meat for hamburgers. After about an hour of constantly trying to unclog it we gave up. This product is a total waste of money - at least for grinding meat. I wish I could give it zero stars. April 17, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Ineffective/Useless This grinder has a feed tube that is too long and narrow. I wanted to grind ring bologna for sandwich spread and couldn't get it pushed down far enough to reach the spiral feeder. Resorted to my old hand crank grinder to get the job done. I won't bother trying to grind meat. By the time you cut it into small chunks and freeze it so it doesn't get turned to mush, you might as well use a quicker method. Also, most parts are plastic with exception of cutting blade and plate. April 5, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Smashes Instead of Grinds This review is for a replacement unit for my 10 year old Kitchen Aid food grinder that had developed a stress fracture in the body of the unit. Unfortunately, this new grinder does not work anywhere near as well as my old one did. First off, this grinder does not come with a wooden pestle for pushing the meat down the throat of this unit, so thankfully I had saved my old one. The auger of this unit does not catch the meat and pull it in as it is being fed into the unit. I have to push down so hard on the meat that I'm certain this plastic unit will soon crack and fail. As the meat goes through the redesigned cutter head it does not get cut but instead it is squeezed bit by bit through the coarse plate. Instead of creating coarse ground meat it very slowly pushes out strings of mush, similar in texture to cooked oatmeal. Because the grinding/smashing of the meat is so slow, there is no way someone could use the sausage stuffing attachment on this food grinder unit. Thankfully I have a 5# sausage mixer and separate 5# sausage stuffer so at least I was able to finish the 30# of kielbasa I made this afternoon. I would have been really screwed if I had depended on this unit for stuffing the casings. I really love KitchenAid products so I'm hoping that perhaps I just ended up with a manufacturing defect. Not sure what I'll do next time I need to grind meat for burgers or sausage. Might just have to invest in a stand alone meat grinder. Yikes, those things are expensive! March 24, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Broke my mixer After about 5 lb broke it made a thud and now only goes one speed, very slow. April 4, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Works well but you gotta follow the instructions I like this attachment, very useful! They tell you to make sure meat is as cold as possible and that is way wise. Mine was not and the fat on the meat eventually blocked up the grinder because it was not cold enough. My fault! March 31, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Blade assembly instructions unclear I have had this attachment a wile, but don't use it often enough to remember how I put the blade in the previous time. I have the older version of the blade. The thick dark color one. Anyway, it is not marked in anyway, as to top or bottom. So the blade fits in either way. However I have read somewhere that if you put it in backwards the blades won't cut. The blade needs to be marked top and bottom. March 18, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not the best. I have had the mixer for a few years and it is awesome at mixing stuff and whipping cream. I got into home made penut butter , hunting, and sausage making. The grinder handles peanuts just fine but quickly heats up and I'm afraid I'm going to burn it out like I did the last 2 blenders I used. Blenders are cheap, kitchen aid machines not so. I tryed preccessing a deer and it took me almost 4 hours to grind 16 lb of venison. I had to clean the gunk and connective tissue every half pound. I had it trimmed, cubed, and nearly frozen. I thought it was just the venison but I had to clean the plate and blade twice grinding 1 lb of pork shoulder. To make maters worse it chracked! I have 3 cracks where the unit attaches to the machine and one where the feed tube meets the body. I have food coming out of that second crack. Love the mixer, hate the grinder. I got a dedicated grinder and a sausage stuffer. December 8, 2015
