Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much improved from previous design I really like the new design. With the integrated slicer and the downward angle, I didn't have an issue with pasta sticking together like in the old design. The only issue I had was I didn't get the pasta plate seated properly and so it didn't extrude as well as it should. Now that I know the issue and what to look for, I don't expect this to be an issue next time. A more positive tab for plate seating would be handy...maybe not as much as was on the old plates that married to the grinder, but certainly something that shows you're engaged before you screw on the bezel. I would like to see more plates for purchase (fettuccine, lasagna, and linguine...the first two were available in the old design) but I am pleased with what is available when you get this and look forward to trying other styles. Rated 2 out of 5 by from The pasta is inedible after processing through the appliance First of all, I had to find a pasta recipe that actually worked and came together properly. The basic egg recipe that was printed is wrong and I had to throw it out. Pasta recipes that are not weighed really are not accurate and inconsistent. Once I had my dough made, the actual process of assembly went well. However, it took an enormous amount of machine energy to process the dough through. I had to use a speed of 8 to get the dough pushed through, and even at that speed it took a really long time. I thought I was going to burn out my KitchenAide. Never mind the electricity I had to draw. The cutting process was okay, but if you didn't do it fast enough the holes started closing over and the rigatoni would stick to one another. But the final result was the worst textured pasta I had ever eaten. The taste was great, but the pasta itself was hard and tough despite normal cooking time. Needless to say, I'll be bringing the product back, since I'll never use it again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wonderful concept, poor results I have been making most of my own pasta for quite a long time with the Kitchenaid pasta set. However, it is limited to long, flat pastas. When I received this attachment I felt like I'd won the lottery. Aside from amusing, very easily, I love homemade pasta and it's fun to make. This attachment appeared to be a virtual amusement park of pasta making. The first time I used it, I made the pasta from the recipe that came with it, and the dough looked and felt, perfect. After making a mountain of pasta, in every size and shape, available to me, I then went for the ultimate test, one shape at a time, flavor. I, very quickly, became aware that it really can't be cooked long enough to even get to a passable al dente, as it remained tough and chewy throughout the cooking process. Hoping against hope that it was the dough recipe, I used my own, tried and true pasta recipe and started, all over again. The results were the same, so consequently, I have never been able to use any of the pasta made from this attachment. The concept of this is fabulous, but worthless, if it doesn't produce edible pasta. I want, so badly, to be able to use it and if there is a solution, I would love to know what it is.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Needs more design & testing While the idea is great, the real life design leaves a lot to be desired. I bought this for my birthday last weekend. After trying three different times to use this, I came to the following conclusions: 1. The dies are almost all too close together allowing the pasta to touch and stick to each other during the extruding process. 2. The design of the dies is such that all of the hollow pastas are too thick. 3. Unless you physically stop after each cut of pasta & re-position the pasta, its stacks upon and sticks to and collapses upon each other. 4. The unit is an absolute nightmare to clean. The dies can take 10 minutes apiece to extract all of the dough from inside the passages. This might be a good product with some additional engineering and a lot more in-home testing, but, as it is currently - no thanks ! Mine went back to the store after less than a week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great. I bought this last week to make macaroni for homemade mac and cheese. I whipped a batch of dough in the mixer, which is so much easier than using a hand mixer with dough hooks. Then a quick attachment of the pasta press. I rolled little balls of dough and fed them in. Soon nice little strands of macaroni were feeding out of the bottom. I found the letting them feed out just a little longer than you would get from a package minimized sticking together. I find home made noodles are so much tastier than store bought. And you know what went in to them. This is an adult play doh factory, and caution should be taken that too much fun cooking is not had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed! I love this pasta press because it's so easy to use and makes perfect pasta. Before I purchased it, I watched the KA, Williams Sonoma, and other videos on You Tube; the tips were very helpful and gave me confidence as a novice pasta maker. The dies just pop apart for easy cleaning. I didn't even have to use water to clean; the dough just came right off. My first attempt was the fusilli because I used Pioneer Woman's Chicken Florentine Pasta recipe that called for a hearty pasta. I also made the small macaroni and used in chili mac. This pasta press is fun to use too and I look forward to using it with my grandchildren.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beginners luck?? I just got my KitchenAid mixer for Christmas along with the pasta press. This afternoon was the debut for spaghetti. I couldn't have been more pleased with the finished product. I was a little worried that the dough was too dry, but just kneaded it together like the recipe said, and it worked just great. The noodles weren't dry or sticky. I also didn't have any problems cleaning the press. The left over dough was quite elastic and came right out of all the parts. I hadn't read any reviews until after my project was complete, and was surprised that others had encountered problems. Perhaps it was just beginners luck! I do know that the kind of flour you use can create differences and also humidity can affect many recipes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Tool for making Fresh Pasta I bought this a couple of months back after looking at it carefully for a while. Probably like everyone that makes fresh pasta I am amazed at the taste of fresh pasta and how really easy it is to make. This press is unique. It is very easy to use. It allows a beginner like me to make a variety of very usable shapes easily. Like most tools it takes a bit to get in to a rhythm, but certainly not hard. It's just a matter of keeping the pasta well dusted when it comes out of the press so that it doesn't stick together. If you get that right everything else is easy. A couple of minutes for fresh pasta to cook and the flavor spoils you. If you are interested in making your own pasta, this versatile tool is well worth having.
