Rated 2 out of 5 by from No Longer A Fan Let me join the chorus of long-time STF 501 wearers that are disappointed by the cheapening of a once-terrific product. As others have noted, the denim fabric is now much thinner, and the durable, double stitching on inner pant leg seams is no more. Bummer. We had a good 50-year run together, but I guess I need to find my new go to. Would've been willing to pay a bit more to maintain the quality, but I guess that train's left the station. Hello, Carhartt?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price for a classic I wanted to make a foray into the raw denim experience and I have always been a Levi's girl so I started with the 501 shrink to fit. I chose the hot water soak put on and wear damp method. I sized up one in the waist and 3 in the length. I couldn't imaging that I would lose that much in the length but I really did - they really did shrink up by like 3 inches. Wearing them damp really wasn't as uncomfortable as expected, as others have written, they dried pretty quickly. Waist is perfect, length is perfect. They fit just like a great pair of "boyfriend" jeans which was what I was shooting for. So excited to see how they age and become my own!! Thanks Levi's for always being awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The same This is the same as back in the 1970s as far as I can tell. That is the the 501 Rigid STF shrink to fit. I get 1" big in the waist, 2" in the inseam. The shrinking and stretching process takes care of a perfect fit eventually. If you get the pre worn out versions the waist is lower, the fabric is thinner, and just not as good. Some girl many years ago said to me my jeans don't look real - but that was just because they were brand new. A pair of jeans needs to earn its reality. !!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the same For anyone who has sworn by these jeans in the past (and I have, these were the only jeans I would buy), this newer iteration is a sad disappointment. Why mess with classic quality? It's sad to see something you thought was time-tested and reliable disappear.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Perfect fit 2 pair were very poorly sewn in several areas . All 4 had a very short unusual seem at bottom of the leg. I have been wearin the 501 shrink to fit for over 60 years and this is the first time I have every had a bad pair . It appears the quality control has been lost . I sure hope this changes . This is too good of a product to be treated like this .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so shrink to fit I bought 4 pair STF 501. 3 shrank and fit fine. One pair never shrunk. Been washed a dozen different ways, and dried. Just wont do it. These pants are not cheep. Checking out the competition for the first time in decades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jeans These are still great jeans - the only ones my fiance will wear. You just have to remember to add two inches to the waist size and the length so they will shrink down to the size you want.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good Bye, Original Jeans There was only one Shrink to Fit jean product for many years and I have been a customer since 1966. In the past 30 years this term has been applied to a wide variety of newer products that are not of the same quality. I've had problems with the fly in other than the "original" in that the buttons are not well spaced. The material in those jeans has changed as well. I can no longer distinguish what constitutes the "original" and will be shopping for a product that is like the old jeans.

I want to buy a pair of big and tall, shrink to fit 501 Jeans. My real waist size is 47 and inseam is 29. Would size 48/30 shrink down to the proper size? More? Less?
Asked by: John
Think you'll be fine. They do typically shrink (and stay) about an inch on both length and waist. With years of experience with 501s, exactly what I would do. Enjoy!
