by stoiccharon great value for raw denim
Wanted to try STF. Sized down one inch in the waist from my true measurement (wanted a slightly slim fit) and 2.5-3 inches up in the length. After soaking in hot water and letting them dry while wearing them, the results were pretty good. Waist/upper box/thighs were perfect. The length, however, did not shrink as much as expected so I needed to hem them two inches. Also, the 501 cut is a bit wider in the lower leg than I'd prefer but that's just personal preference. Overall I'd highly recommend if you like the 501 cut.

by rpm1 Levis are always great but has a small problem on 501 Jeans.
The order was received and all was correct. One problem with the 501 jeans. I washed them in cold water and the right leg twisted. I personally do not believe this should happen. All else was easy and other than the twisted leg part, I would recommend the product and J C Penny would be the place to purchase men's clothing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Konajack Levi the jean of jeans!
I have been wearing 501's for as long as I can remember. The biggest problem is finding the correct size 33 x 36, which no one seems to carry. Well when I visited my local JC Penny store a team member suggested I go on-line and order them, which I did.
Not only did they arrive in a timely manner, I also received the sale price! Will be ordering them again, once I wear out my current pairs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Chuck I can' t wear the 501 jeans I bought.
Not only was I told the wrong size to buy due to shrinkage but after reading the washing instructions I decided to only open one package containing one pair of jeans. I washed and dried them twice and both times my jeans came out looking like an according. I use to buy the 501 jeans all of the time years ago and never had any problems with them. Apparently these jeans are made of a different material. I am 69 years old and I still like wearing nice clothes but I guess the jeans I use to buy are no longer available.

The 501 STF Levis fit SO well, especially around the seat and waist. No other jeans have such a great fit. For those who complain they come out of the 1st wash so stiff, after you wear them for a couple of days the stiffness disappears. Or you can wash them a 2nd time and the stiffness will disappear. For best fit for most people, buy 1" larger in the waist and 2" long in length.

Rated 1 out of 5 by COZWV WHY ALL THE GUESSWORK IN SIZING???
Bought 3 pair of these. Was so happy to find the original jeans from my youth that fit so great and fade like they should!
The first wash they shrunk up WAY too much in waist and length! I've been reading all the reviews and for the life of me I cannot understand why they don't label the sizes to be closer to what they will be AFTER washing? How can the pre-washed 501's fit just fine in 34-34 but these shrink-to-fit ones after washing might say 34-34 on the label but shrink up to 32-32. So the label then becomes completely WRONG!
Had to return them and bought two pairs of the pre-shrunk 501's because of course the JC Penney store did not have my size in the unwashed darker 501's.
I am going to order the 36-36 and give those a try to see if they shrink up to 34-34 but I sure don't see why it necessary after all these years of Levis making Jeans that we have to do all this guessing?

material is not soft and does not stretch or bend. these pants are made for people with legs that are tree trunks and for people that don't like to sit. The 501 jeans are not made for style either. I would NOT recommend these jeans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jajj Excellent Throwback 501's
The product is excellent and it behaves the way shrink-to-fit Levi's are supposed to in their early wearings and washings. My experience with STF 501's over the past 60 years is that they shrink about 2 inches in inseam and one inch in waist when compared to the usual pre-shrunk product, but they stretch back out in the waist and thighs to custom fit your body ... which is the general idea. They also wear and fade to their own unique patterns, making them far more individualistic than all the fake pre-washed and pre-worn alternatives. The break-in and customization process works best if the garment is worn during its initial 1 or 2 washings and dryings, but the washing machine and dryer can do an acceptable job if machine-dried to a damp dry and finish dried on your body to help customize the fit. Google other websites for more detail on break-in rituals.
