by SharpDrezzedMan Clearly not athletic fit.
I had purchased a dozen of these Stafford athletic fit dress shirts a decade ago. Awesome shirts, fit was great and I wore them everyday for work. These shirts last a long time, but unfortunately the elbows now have holes in them and the collars are fraying at the edges. I decided to go with Stafford athletic fit again for my work attire, WOW is all can say in regard to how the designers at Stafford think a dress shirt should fit an athletic male body. Hey, Stafford designers, athletic fit means roomy in the chest and shoulder and tapered at the waist. These new Stafford athletic fit shirts are cut for beer drinking champions and all you can eat buffet destroyers. The new Stafford athletic fit clearly does not have a tapered waist. The body of these new shirts are as wide as the shoulders and fit like a 50 gallon garbage bag. I would have to go up 2 pant sizes to tuck all the extra fabric from the tails of these shirts into my pants. For the love of all athletic men who have a hard time finding dress shirts that fit well, please bring back the old athletic cut design and burn these new shirts. I will be looking elsewhere for my dress shirt needs. Thank you for ruining a perfectly good shirt. The attached photo is of an old blue Stafford athletic fit dress shirt laid over the top of the new white Stafford athletic fit dress shirt. Both of these shirts are the same size and style with the button collar. Anybody see a difference? Good luck trying to pass off these new shirts as athletic fit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer THE Forearm are way way to tight, Do not Buy
How often do you shop at JC Penney?
I shop a JCP for all my dress clothes, but not any longer!!!
Big mistake, I order a couple shirts 6 months ago and thought I just got a bad lot. Now I know that are all bad. I order 10 Shirts 5 white and 5 Blue.
When I got them I was very disappointed to find out that even in a non tailored Shirt the sleeve are impossible to move in. My forearms were literally strangled by the sleeve. They are very uncomfortable and my forearms are not big by any means. I will return them and not Shop at JCP any longer.
To bad I have the been a loyal customer for 30 years.
I complete agree with this statement from another reviewer:
"I'll need to return all the shirts and find a new source going forward. Penny's has been a huge disappointment in last couple years and I can't afford to buy what I thought would be a consistent product only to find they change things up in a bad way. Do not buy Stafford shirts!"

This is the shirt resembling the ones I have purchased for the guys in my family for years. The look fantastic for the first few washings. The little pinholes begin to appear on the collar. They keep getting worse with each washing. You can get maybe 5-8 wearings out of shirt before it has to be pitched. That's why they are always in stock and on sale. Don't buy Stafford brand shirts under any circumstances.

My mistake, I went to a Penny store nearby to get the dress shirts I have been wearing for decades and of course they only had one since inventories appear to be disappearing lately (not due to sales). I spoke with a clerk and I commented about the inventory and she offered to tell me that they also changed the sleeve cut and that it was a 'tailored' fit. I bought the one shirt then went back to work and ordered several more on line. When I got them I was very disappointed to find out that the tailored sleeve really meant that the shirst are impossible to move in. My forearms were literally wrapped tight by the sleeve. They are very uncomforatable and my forearms are not big by any means. I'll need to return all the shirts and find a new source going forward. Pennys has been a huge disappointment in last couple years and I can't afford to buy what I thought would be a consistent product only to find they change things up in a bad way. Do not but stafford shirts!

Rated 5 out of 5 by EarlofWinchester A well-tailored addition to my wardrobe
Following a recent work reassignment requiring business dress on a daily basis, I rapidly became aware that it was time to purchase new dress shirts. After checking out various offerings online, I clicked on an ad for the Stafford brand, having worn it in the past. I ended up purchasing multiple shirts, largely due to the clear pictures on the Penneys website, permitting me to see the obvious attention to detail in tailoring. In addition, I liked the availability of sizes (I'm a big/tall customer) and the overall color/style palette, although yellow was strangely not a color choice.
Despite selecting standard shipping, the shirts arrived more quickly than estimated; they were exactly as advertised. The shirts fit very well around the neck and shoulders, the shirt tails are properly long (allowing me to move around in them without fear), the sleeve length is exactly what I want, and I've noticed no shrinking or fading in the wash. I'm very happy with my purchase!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Lennyden Size not true
I have been wearing these shirts for a few years. I alway order the button down collar, size 18 neck, 36 sleeve, regular fit. They have always fit very nice. This time I ordered 5 new shirts, same exact sizes. When I tried them on they didn't fit, they were way too tight and the shoulders were cut different. When I layed a new shirt on top of one my older shirts I could see the problem. Even though it was the same exact size, the new shirts were cut almost 2 inches narrower than the old shirts, and the shoulders were completely different. Very frustrating that you cannot even keep the same size from year to year. Also, my old shirts are at least a year old, have been laundered many times and probably have shrunk a bit. You would think the new shirts might even be a bit bigger becasue of this, but no. Your own sizing chart says the 18/36 regular fit has a chest size of 50, completely false.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SuperhirtLover Great product again just like the old Supershirt!
I am not a professional reviewer but one of the many JCP shoppers who had loved the Old Supershirt and worn them exclusively. Always long sleeves pinpoint Supershirts. Then for the past few years something went very bad and the sleeves were always mis-sewn and did not fit properly. Too short/tight not wearable or usable.
I took a chance again and ordered 6 ATHLETIC travel performance pinpoint oxford on-line (Could not find them in the store) in 17-34/35 ATHLETIC (I do not use fitted or regular) and amazingly they all fit perfectly just like the good old days! The label does not say Supershirt but as an old Supershirt user for many years I can say this is as close as it gets; a nice crisp, thick shirt that is not see-through like many others.
I am writing this lengthy review to help the many frustrated past buyers of the great old Supershirt. Thanks JCP please do not mess this shirt up again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by BPT4 CAVEAT EMPTOR: NEW CUT!
For years I've ordered this shirt in my usual size with the athletic fit. It was hands down the best shirt on the market for the money. However, the cut has now significantly changed. Stafford now offers both "fitted" and "athletic" cuts, and both of them are far tighter across the shoulders, under the armpits, and through the sleeves than the old "athletic" fit used to be. So tight that I couldn't even raise my arms above my head. I'm all for a slender fitting shirt through the torso for an athletic frame, but these news shirts get it totally wrong through the shoulder girdle. Unwearably wrong. All of them are going back to the store, and I'm distraught that I now have to find a new "go to" athletic-fit wrinkle-free dress shirt. The material looks to be the same high quality fabric they used in the past, so hopefully stafford will consider reconfiguring their fit in the future.
