Rated 2 out of 5 by from No Longer A Fan Let me join the chorus of long-time STF 501 wearers that are disappointed by the cheapening of a once-terrific product. As others have noted, the denim fabric is now much thinner, and the durable, double stitching on inner pant leg seams is no more. Bummer. We had a good 50-year run together, but I guess I need to find my new go to. Would've been willing to pay a bit more to maintain the quality, but I guess that train's left the station. Hello, Carhartt?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor quality for Levis Been wearing these jeans since the 70's and these aren't it. Thinner material, single stitching rather than double, one button broke third time I wore them. I'd try returning them but just don't want another pair. Very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Polyester??????? Stretch???? "Original" NOT These are NOT "original" in any way. The originals were 100 percent cotton and SHRUNK that way. These have polyester and stretchy stuff in them. FAKE "originals" that won't shrink or fit the way the ones I've been wearing for darned near 50 years USED to do. Just ... wow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The same This is the same as back in the 1970s as far as I can tell. That is the the 501 Rigid STF shrink to fit. I get 1" big in the waist, 2" in the inseam. The shrinking and stretching process takes care of a perfect fit eventually. If you get the pre worn out versions the waist is lower, the fabric is thinner, and just not as good. Some girl many years ago said to me my jeans don't look real - but that was just because they were brand new. A pair of jeans needs to earn its reality. !!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Oh so sad. But oh so true Awful compared to how 501 STF used to be. Very thin or light weight denim, gone is double stitching and hems curl. I guess they will reissue the original 501s and charge twice the price of these imposters. Switching to carrhart

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the same For anyone who has sworn by these jeans in the past (and I have, these were the only jeans I would buy), this newer iteration is a sad disappointment. Why mess with classic quality? It's sad to see something you thought was time-tested and reliable disappear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Real 501's are iconic, durable and great! The traditional 501s are for real jean lovers. Tough, sensible, fit just fine after extra 2-inch length shrinks. I've loved them ever since I was a kid, love the smell of the denim and indigo dye when they're brand new. I'm so glad something durable and traditional is still available!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jeans These are still great jeans - the only ones my fiance will wear. You just have to remember to add two inches to the waist size and the length so they will shrink down to the size you want.

I want to buy a pair of big and tall, shrink to fit 501 Jeans. My real waist size is 47 and inseam is 29. Would size 48/30 shrink down to the proper size? More? Less?

Yes, the correct size to buy is 48x30. Levis 501- Shrink -To Fit Jeans will do as it states, "SHRINK". Shrinkage , in my experience, is around 5/8" to 3/4". Levis 501's will fit you nicely.

I buy Levi's 501 Shrink to Fit, (not Big and Tall, I'm short), but I believe the shrinkage would be the same. They generally shrink about an inch in the waist and about 3 inches in length. The total shrinkage typically doesn't happen in one washing. So buy ONE paid and wash and dry them several times to check for fit. Penney's will take them back even if they have been washed. Then buy MORE.
