PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
You’ve picked the ones that began the brand: the iconic Levi’s® 501® Original Fit Jean. Authentic, not only because of their heritage but because they fit right, look good, and tell a great story. Sitting higher at your waist to fit the 5-button fly, the regular cut straight leg is not too tight, or too loose, and has no added stretch - just durable heavyweight cotton. Worn by guys who define their own style; coveted by denim collectors the world over.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made... I hover between 34 and 35, so I chose a 36" waist. Fits well, and not too snug. I like a little bit of room around the waist. The straight leg is just right, but I choose to turn up my cuffs. My biggest disappointment was that these 501's were made in Egypt and imported. To be fair, there are no construction deficiencies that I've noticed, but I was hoping that these jeans would be Made in the USA as advertised. All in all, a good pair of Levi's 501's in Dark Stonewash, which I will wear for a long time. I plan to dryclean only and not subject them to the washer/dryer routine. I believe that's the best way to preserve them. In a pinch, cold water hand wash and air dry is the way to go. Dear Levi's people: If you say Made in the USA, I tend to believe you. Please keep your promises. Nothing wrong with Imported, the quality could be arbitrary, and I prefer my Levi's to be made here. Thank you for reading my review.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Size Matters A 36" waist is not always a 36" waist. Ordered two pairs of jeans with 36" waist. One fit perfect and the other (no way). Had tried on the on that fit first and then discarded all packing. when I went to put on the second pair it didn't fit. labeling was the same.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This is a great Jean. When I was in high school and college,,Levi 501 straight legs was the only jeans I wore. I just purchased a pair and I was really disappointed. There just not made like they used to be made back in the 80's. The material is tinner, the waist is higher and even though they fit well, there is a lot of slack in the back. I'm trying to figure out if a smaller waist size would fit better but not be to small in the other areas. So if someone can answer this question, I would buy me some more much missed 501's.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what they use to be I do not care for the new method of stitching the leg hem. The pants now come out curled from the dryer. The last thing I want to do is iron my jeans. Very disappointed and will not be purchasing another pair as long as this continues.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very upset This is my fifth pair of levis 501, before all the pairs of jeans are produced in Mexico, and were perfect. Now made in Haiti, and they really are different, they are longer, wider leg. I write to you to let you know that I'm upset. It seems to me that I have a reject.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from absolute disaster Third time I've tried to buy the same 501's I've worn since I was a teenager. Third bust. The fit isn't "small" but there was no "all-over-the-map" category. This time, I tried six different pairs, they were made in four different countries, and each one fit radically different, from knees cut so tight they wouldn't bend to inaccurate waist and length. One pair had crazy wide thighs and sat too low on the waist, the next: two inches too short and totally baggy in the waist. Some had thin fabric, others weird stitching and tiny hems. It looked like I got six pairs of pants on the black market. These are so far from the Levis I have worn since I was 18 and I'm saddened, now 55, to have to find another source of jeans. Apparently the Levis we all knew and loved are long, long gone.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Order a size or two too small I ordered the 501, 511 and 512. The 30" waist is different in EACH pair. I had to send the 501 back; they practically fell off! The 511 fit the best by far, the 512 has a HIGH waist.
Date published: 2016-12-21
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice but runs slightly big These pants are made of nice material, albeit bit stiff like a pair of stiff jeans, but considering Levi's is a jeans co, it makes sense. They do run slightly roomy on the waist to thighs so you should consider sizing it down if you're like me and like to wear fitted pants. The black color isn't deep true black but rather washed-out dark charcoal.

501 is the classic button fly... I don't know the answer about big and tall v. regular... I make my purchases based on size alone... (Since I know my 501 size)...

Levis 501's are button fly. Not being big or tall I can't respond. 501's always fit like a glove for me.

Answer:
The Levi's® 501® have a button fly instead of a zipper. This button fly in the 501® style has been the standard tradition ever since the beginning of the Levi's® brand. Other styles of Levi's® have the zipper fly and each style should indicate which fly closure it uses.

Answer:
No zipper, just buttons. I can't answer the difference between big and tall and regular as these are sized by waist and inseam length.

Answer:
Most original fit levi's have a button fly but if it says zipper then it would be. On the big and tall it has a little roomier fit in certain areas like the thighs and rump area. Of course the big and tall also go up to bigger sizes and start at a larger size as their start size too.

Answer:
Buttons, no zipper. Standard for 501's. Big and tall are more "roomy" and relaxed, I am partial to B & T because I can get a pair close to the length, rather than getting a pair to fit my waist, but have legs that are WAY to long for me.

Answer:
No zipper; button fly only. Waist and length are standard but fit can change. I have a 40" waist and a 36" inseam and the original fit is fine for my size.

Answer:
In my experience these will shrink about 1/4" in the waist and 1/4" to 1/2" in length. I wash them on warm and dry them on hot.

Answer:
The material is prewashed before they are sewn so they might tighten up after each wash but only because they get stretched during normal wear. They fit very well to size!

Answer:
Technically they already come preshrunk. So if there is any shrinkage it is very minimal. Of course on regular heating cycle. But these jeans are very durable.

Answer:
These jeans do not seem to shrink at all. If the fit is truly 30x32 you will have no problems. Buy with assurance that Levi had a very high quality and fit is usually true to size.

Answer:
All mine that were ordered this past time were made in Mexico. With over 8 different washes/finishes, it might prove useful to see if these came from a different locale. Have been wearing 501 for 38+ years and it has been over 20 years since I remember made in USA; but again, some of the wearing and washes (or not) might still be made here.
One added note. The straight blue jean (unwashed) has always had a shrink of almost two inches in the waist if you use a dryer. This will take several dryer cycles to get there. They used to have a disclaimer years back to allow 3% shrinkage. That is one in every 33"; that is actually x2 with heated drying.
