Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Features, Spacious, and Beautiful I had the French-Style fridge and decided that it was time to get rid of the freezer being on the bottom, I'm so glad that I did... I am very happy with my new Side-by-Side! It's got all of your basic features: Pull out ice-makers, water/ice/light/child lock on out door panel, inside removable water filter, and plenty of storage! It does make a noise when bringing in water for the ice-maker, but it's nothing unusual or annoying. Overall, very happy customer. BTW: This is my very first GE Appliance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Door Handle Broke off The door handle broke off in less than a year. To replace the handle itself is at a cost of $100 plus. There is a small part which is detachable from the handle that is plastic and that is what is broke. In looking to see if it is available, I could not find it. It would appear it has a part # of 225D8603A002. So if anyone knows where that can be obtained for less than $100 it would be most appreciated. I don't need a whole handle, just the bracket.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Meh Two weeks with this fridge, and I'm already unhappy. The ice dispenser spits out at least four whole cubes when filling an average 8 oz cup, even though "crushed" is selected. Granted, I know that when you cycle from cubed to crushed you may get a few strays every now and then. But this thing spits out cubes even though it's been set to crush the ice for a few days. As others have mentioned, I'm not thrilled that it doesn't come with a small deli drawer. In my defense, I was not involved in the purchase of this so I had no idea it didn't come with one. I just assumed every fridge comes with a deli drawer. Guess not. Otherwise, it's a fridge. It will get the job done and it looks decent. But if I had been involved in buying this thing to begin with, I probably would have passed it up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the slate color My old side-by-side GE lasted 12 years. I did a lot of research, looked at other brands and ended up with this GE model, which is very similar to my old one. It even has the same middle drawer. I fell in love with the Slate color, very sleek and just beautiful. It's been about 5 days since it's installed, so far it's quiet and everything works as expected. I'm very happy with this purchase. By the way, I was told at one of the department stores I visited that the Slate appliances are 100% made in the US, the floor model even has "made in USA" sticker on it. But mine says made in Mexico. I'm not complaining but I thought I should point this out ;p

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Repeat Performance Bought this refrigerator to replace an 18-year old model with exactly the same features in all the right places. Improvements over the years, especially the smooth finished door handles make keeping it clean much easier; the new style shelves and drawers have more adjustments for placement making it easier to configure them to my needs. The only thing I miss is the width of the shelves on the door; they're about 2/3s of what they were on the older model so the bigger bottles don't fit, but I'll get used to it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from attractive and installed with no problems My old GE refrigerator served me well for nearly 20 years! I decided to stick with the same brand. Compared to my old model, improvements include the material the door handles are made of, improved inside lighting, improved energy efficiency, improved ice and water dispenser. The inside bins are made of more plastic and less metal. I hope they hold up as well as the old model. I actually took some of the old metal freezer baskets out and was surprised to find that they fit in the new refrigerator!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Gss25gmheces The refrigerator is working fine but, the refrigerator is not as cold as I like. I don't think the internal temp. Gauge is correct. Also, the storage in the door is not adequate. I don't feel they utilize the space well. I bought another bin. It is a tight fit, but I can put the milk in the door now. The 2 bottom shelves on the door are basically useless as well as the doors in the freezer. If the interior design was better it would be a much better fridge

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overly long, requires help to understand Limited cubic footage is further frustrated by insufficient shelving in both refrigerator and freezer (we needed to purchased another shelf for the refrigerator door). Exterior requires constant wiping of fingerprints to maintain sheen. We have been GE enthusiats for many years (prior refrigerator/freezer and oven) and were anxious to continue enjoying this purchase -sorry for this critique.

Space available is 36-1/2" counter on freezer side and a wall on the refrigerator side. Will the door hinges prevent me from opening the refrigerator

Will the refrigerator door open at a 90 degree angle on the wall side. Door handles are not a problem.
Asked by: henry
Hi Henry- This is Sue at GE Appliances. Thanks for viewing our GE® 21.9 Cu. Ft. Counter-Depth Side-By-Side Refrigerator GZS22DSJ! The refrigerator is 35 3/4" wide (Width w/Door Open 90 Degrees Less Handle 36 3/8"). You will also need 1/8" air clearance on each side. If installed against a wall, clearance required to remove fresh food full-size pan without disassembling is 15". We suggest to view the Quick Specs at the following link: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=GZS22DSJ_DMJ_c2.pdf - Thanks for checking with us!
