Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love the downdraft, but have other issues Have used this about 3 months. I really like having a vent that goes outside. The type I had before, under the microwave which was above the stove, was useless. I do have issues, however. One would be that the glass top is very hard to keep clean. Both of my previous free standing stoves had glass tops that were sort of speckled. They were much easier to keep clean. I agree with others - the knob area is also hard to clean. Basically the knobs have to be removed. While the elements heat very fast, I concur with another reviewer - the very lowest setting on all the burners is still too hot for a slow simmer. The melt setting is OK, but I would prefer a WARM setting so I could set my plates on the burner to warm up. Don't like putting food on cold plates.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Less Than I Expected Our prior GE downdraft cooktop had solid burners that were surrounded by stainless steel. The controls were located at the front of the cooktop where they were easy to access, but also on an angle from the main cooktop surface. While I am still getting used to how to set the temperature controls on the new cooktop, I am not finding it easy to get the right temperature on a reasonably consistent basis. I had expected that the new radiant heating system and all the other technologies that are available to provide more consistency in maintaining a temperature. As I said, I am still getting used to the controls, but so far I am quite disappointed. The other major difference involves maintaining the cooktop. The old stainless cooktop seemed able to take a fair amount of normal everyday use and could be wiped down at the end of the day with a damp dishcloth or sponge. As described in the GE literature, the new cooktops are extremely susceptible to damage from abrasion. In particular, the GE literature suggests that wiping salt from the cooktop in the wrong way will lead to permanent scratches in the cooktop surface. Special cleaning products are needed to maintain the cooktop's surface in a clean condition. Also, aluminum and copper pots can leave a residue on the cooktop surface. In all, the new cooktop seems much more finicky and fragile.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great performing cook top and looks great. My only Really good looking unit and performs well. There is one real problem with this unit and that is you can not see the settings on the dials as the glass is black it is not back lit. Everyone I've shown the cook top to raves about how nice it looks but no one can read the dials. I need to keep the owner's manual beside the unit so that I can refer tp the illustrations to approximate where to set the dials. I never imagined this could happen or that it be sold as is. In my opinion this is a real problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No regrets Have been using for about 3 mos. and so far no issues. I bought the stainless, which is actually black with stainless trim. I love the 3 speed fan and double size burner. I have not had an opportunity to use the bridge burner yet, but like that I have the option. My only complaint is the print for the temperature knobs is basically unreadable. It is a really pale white and even with some magnification is almost impossible to see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice downdraft cooktop Very nice cooktop I like the downdraft better than a overhead vent hood.
