Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Holiday Plates! I have been looking for good quality, cherry red plates for the holidays for ages and my prayers have been answered! These plates are true to color. The JC Penny website is accurate but the actual plates are a deeper, richer cherry red color that pops. One of the plates had a tiny paint coverage defect on the side but overall I am ecstatic with them. They are a heavy weight construction that feels right and I got a service of nine plates and eight bowels (I took the advise of a prior review and the bowels ARE the perfect plate/bowel for soup or pasta, and I got an extra plate for insurance), along with 2 serving platters for the price of what 4 Christmas plates with festive designs would cost! :) Setting my holiday table with my red plates and platters, along with a few white serving platters to break up the color and make it more festive, will be a joy for years to come. Since there is no Christmas tree on the plates, I can use them for Thanksgiving, Valentines day or any special day...like my anniversary!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Egg-Shaped Platter I chose mine in green, buying two. This matches with other dinnerware I have; it's a solid heavy oval platter, very good for serving entrees or perhaps appetizers. This is on sale under red tent now in Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa. Check it out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I adore this set! I have to say that I have purchased many sets and gave them a test-run in our daily lives and pretty much each one didn't hold up, except this one. We are a family of 4 and these bowls hold up to the heavy banging on granite not like the other sets. They do get hot in the microwave but it's not potholder worthy. The cups finally hold a good amount of coffee! Our favorite piece so far are the Dinner Bowls that they sell as a set of 4. Buy them! You will find that you will choose those over the dinner plates, especially if you have young-ish kids like us (4 & 8). Only negative is they seem to show knife marks when I use the steak knives, nothing else shows. I've been told Barkeeper's Friend gets the marks out but I have yet to try/buy it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Everyday Dishes I ordered a ton of these dishes...service for 12, plus extra serving bowls, platters, bowls, and plates. Our UPS guy was sick of me by the time I had received it all. I am very happy with the color (off white), the quality, the style, etc. The decorative raised lines add just enough adornment, so that they do not look plain. Out of all of the many items that I received, there was a total of four pieces that had small flaws in the finish, so I returned them and reordered. Some folks might not have noticed, but I am picky. There was no problem with returning them. I would definitely recommend these dishes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as Good as Fiestware, but costs less I purchased some Fiestaware, but was not happy with the medium 19 ounce bowl, so I went to JC Penny find differed Fiestaware bowls. While looking for Fiestaware, I came across this set. The quality was just as good as Fiestaware, and the bowl was the exact size I wanted. The price of one of these setting is about the price of one Fiestaware dinner plate and one medium bowl. I wanted 12 plates and bowls in different colors, and since this is offered in 6 colors, I could have purchased 2 sets of each color for the same price I paid for 12 Fiestaware bowls and plates. I wish I had come across these sooner. The only downside is if you like many different colors since this dinnerware only comes in 6 different colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love! Love! Love! I am so tickled! I purchased two sets of this dinnerware in green along with the dinner bowls and serving bowl and platter. This stoneware more than meets my expectations. I made my final decision to purchase these after reading all of the great reviews. The green color is so refreshing! Only very slight flaws such as a little white spot on a bowl. Out of all of the dishes I got that is excellent in my opinion! I had purchased 2 different sets from another department store. They were suppose to be high end but the workmanship and quality did not compare to this JC Penney Home stoneware collection and I had to return both of them. I love JC Penney! Thanks! I can purchase quality products at prices I can afford!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Beautiful! I was very surprised to take delivery of my set of dishes much earlier that I expected. I looks as though the shipping department tried very hard to get them to me before Thanksgiving--which I certainly appreciated. Now, the dishes themselves look so much nicer than is the pictures, and feel very substantial in the hand. The decorative lines on the dinner and salad plates rim depressions in the plates that will hold the food you place on them without the food slipping off if the plate's moved. Both the bowl and mug are larger than I anticipated, as well. I got the set in "taupe" which is a smokey tan. The dishes are heavy and are both microwave and dishwasher compatible. I'm VERY happy with my purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A high quality product at any price! I was surprised to find that JCP Home Stoneware Dinner Collection is actually comparable to the other big name brand dinnerware products advertised for three times the price. I'm very pleased.

How white is the white? or is it sort of off white?

Asked by: RuthBPlums
It is a nice soft white. Sort of a winter white. Not a glaring bright white, but not a yellowish cream.

What is the depth difference between the inner rim edge of the dinner plate and the flat bottom?

I am afraid i can only put food inside the flat inner circle. The outere edging looks quite elevated compared to the bottom. item #7861436
Asked by: Shelly
The plate is 7" round, it goes up just under 1/2" to the rim, the rim is just under 2". IMO the way the plate is constructed does not hinder food placement. I've had the set for a couple months and I'm very happy with it thus far, especially for the price I paid.

Do you sell the bowls separately?

I would like to buy the bowls 6x6x3 in cobalt blue and the plates as well in cobalt blue, but need to buy a certain amount, not the whole set.
Asked by: Mozartgirl
I go every so often because they have "loose" pieces. That's when I buy extra dishes, bowls, etc. Just keep a lookout at your store.
