Rated 2 out of 5 by from Quality control issues These are lovely drapes and really keep the room cool. However... I needed four panels in Traditional Tan, and I had to buy 10 panels just to find four that almost matched. In normal room light, they are all close enough, but with strong sunlight behind them the color variations are quite apparent, some more golden and others a muddy taupe. I couldn't see any difference in the store, but once they were hung you couldn't overlook it and pretend they matched. I had the best luck with older stock from two different stores. The (newer stock) panels I purchased online had serious quality control issues -- they lacked drapery weights and the lining did not extend the full width of the panel, leaving an obvious and irregular line where the lining stopped short of the edge. If you feel the bottom corners and there are no drapery weights, be sure to check the edges for this lining irregularity by holding it up to the light. It will definitely show when they're hanging!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, quality curtains I purchased (4) 95" Ivory Beige panels for my daughter's room and (4) 108" Restoration Green panels for my study. The materials have a beautiful sheen, which is exactly what I was looking for. The panels are true to length... I measured each one. I really like the decorative brass grommets too, they add a little more elegance to compliment the material. The lining appear to be good quality. It is a light grey thermal material with pretty decent weight and is attached at the sides and top of the panel. I was pleasantly surprised that the Restoration Green was actually a light, silvery green. I couldn't find this color in store or described in other reviews, and the online presentation of Restoration Green appeared to be a much darker, grey green. I'm glad I took a chance. The Ivory Beige is true to color. I was able to view this in store before I purchased, so no surprise there. I'm very happy with these and was really glad to get them on sale. JCP is my go to for drapes, I have a lot of windows in my new home, and keep coming back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can finally sleep in! I purchased these curtains in white and I love them! I can finally sleep late. My bedroom has the eastern exposure, and even though I have vertical blinds, by 6:45, there is lots of light in the room. I purchased these curtains so that my husband and I can sleep in on our days off. They are very effective; on Saturday we slept until 8:40, and Sunday until 9:05, and I could not believe that it was that late, when I got up, because it was still dark in the room. The curtains are very elegant looking and slide easily because of the grommets. I had purchased curtains at two other stores before buying these, and I returned them, because they did not darken the room enough. These curtains are great, and they are washable, which is a great plus. One of the previous ones that I returned before buying these, were dry clean only, so I was very happy to find that these are washable. I very happy with my purchase, and I will buy more for the kids rooms later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice curtains, good for blocking out light I bought three sets of these blackout curtain panels - one for each of my kids' rooms and one for my room. It's especially important for my kids rooms because it stays light very late here, and I need my kids to go to bed at a normal hour! These curtains are great. They definitely block out a TON of light. Right now the only light coming through is at the top, bottom, and sides of the curtains, because I only have blinds on the window instead of a blackout shade. My only complaint is that I wish the material was softer and a little more "flowy" but other than that I am very happy I purchased these. Sweepstakes entry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks more expensive/luxurious than expected I work nights and have a hard time falling/staying asleep and going back to sleep when there's too much light in the bedroom. I got by on my first five nights by hanging a fleece blanket folded in half from grommets and picture hanging hooks. Decided to dress up the room, am very happy with these drapes. They pleat and hang well. Important notes: 1. Follow the window coverings guide on this website to make sure you order enough panels. 2. Don't expect a perfect look right out of the bag. You need to launder, dry and iron the panels before hanging them up the first time. Start to finish, installing the rods and preparing the curtains took me about 3 hours (most of the "wasted" time was spent getting my measurements figured out BEFORE I drilled, and laundering/drying/ironing the panels). But, I don't have to touch them again until they need laundering. 3. Don't try to pair these panels with the Prescott double rod and the Royal Velvet Plaza grommet balloon valances. The valances were unlined, which just looked silly over these drapes. The grommet tops don't allow enough clearance to pull smoothly back and forth with a valance installed on the front rod. 4. Don't expect total blackout from these drapes. You can achieve this by pairing them with blackout cellular shades. (The ones in the photos are by Levolor). 5. If you want a more casual, less shiny look, select a different drape with a linen-type fabric. Great product, so happy I bought them! The grommet tops add just a little flair and make these blinds super easy to hang and drape (did I mention that I hate drapery pins?). The workmanship is very good, and the fabric is both luxurious and easy care. I would purchase these again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely LOVE these curtains! These curtains are perfect for my family for the following reasons: 1) LOVE the way they look! 2) Easy to slide across curtain rod. 3) Super easy to clean (They are in my dining room and I am constantly finding peanut butter or whatever finger prints on them and they spot-wash right out with a wet wash cloth!) 4) They are sturdy. (I can't keep the kids from playing with them, even in between the lining and main curtain layer...so they are being very well-tested. I've had them for about 9 months now and I see no signs of wear or tear.) One recommendation though, I would suggest ironing them BEFORE hanging them. I didn't and after I ironed them they dragged on the floor because I had measured them to the floor while they were still wrinkled from the package. I don't mind them dragging on the floor a little, but I would still recommend ironing them first so you know what length you're actually dealing with. :) I am planning on purchasing another set for my bedroom now. I bought the plum color and am planning on finding some white ones next.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Curtains! I love these Black Out Grommet Curtains! They really do keep the light out at night and the grommets make it super easy to toss open the curtains in the morning to let in the light. There is also a nice shimmer to them and the colors are beautiful! I have both Palmetto Red & Smokey Taupe curtains which really compliment my decor. You will need to iron out the wrinkle folds but then they are perfect. These are my go to curtains and Penney's is fantastic about exchanges if you order but don't like the color.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Royal Velvet Blackout Drapes These looked so nice in the store, I bought them. Got a great price for them. However when received the two panels I purchased were not the same length. One was 84" as it was supposed to be and one was quite a bit shorter. I returned the shorter panel and ultimately received another panel that was shorter than 84" also. I returned short panel again and got another one that was not 84". I returned short panel again and finally got another 84" panel. I was persistent because I really liked the price and how they look in my bedroom. Plus I like how they block out the daylight. Penney's was good about the many returns I made. In the long run I am happy, but quality control is not what it used to be! For those who aren't retired, like I am, and do not have time to keep returning....buy something else.

What is the color of the liner that is used? I want to use them but people can see both sides so I don't want it to be white.

Are they actually velvet? The brand name is Royal Velvet but I can't tell from the photo if the curtains are velvet.

Asked by: Chrissy
They are not velvet. I have 8 panels in our bedroom. They are wonderful. Fabric is nice - feels soft to the touch. Blackout panel on the back is white and keeps out the sun and any night lights.

Ability to Block Out Heat and Cold

Do the Royal Velvet Plaza Grommet curtains block out heat and cold? If you know of another JCP curtain that does, please let me know.
Asked by: Carol
I have them on a large, single pane window at the front of my house. They worked great this summer. I believe they will also block the cold this winter.
