Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Display Had owned previous Polar watches and this one is the best. Face of the watch is easy to read no matter what activity. If working out for a certain amount of time and yet measure your heart rate, merely bring it up to your chest as you are moving and it switches to the chrono mode from the hear rate mode. Bring it up to your chest again and switches back. Would recommend downloading a .pdf of the instructions for better explanation than what is sent with the watch. Price can't be beat for the functionality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does One Thing Well!!! I want my heart rate monitor to do just one thing and do it well...measure my heart rate! This does that very well. I don't need all sorts of special programs or settings, just like it simple. Suggest using conduction jell such as Bubump on HR sensor pads and this will solve consistency issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to Read, easy to use, Basic I have an 8 year old Polar F1 that still works, but the transmitter belt has finally deteriorated (the plastic ends broke through). This FT1 is very similar, but the watch band looks suspect. I just received this, have used it two days and am concerned the "gel-rubber" band may not last. I will update over time. The one-button entries have a short learning curve and you won't regret the simplicity. After entering execute (start) you merely swipe your wrist past the chest sensor to toggle between heart rate, elapsed time and actual clock time. No buttons to push while working out! This is basic; no upload or tracking, but gives you right-now feedback of your workout intensity. The LARGE font is easy on these 60 YO eyes and preferable (to me) over the FT4/7 Polar's watch face and font size. The band is the only reason to not give it 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should be mandatory in highschool gym classes I'm just a country bumpkin. been bicycling / mountain bikin' since I was a wee lad. I never really understood heart rate limits. I used to push myself so hard without realizing I was doing damage....I didn't have a tachometer. I got bi-lateral DVT and CVI back in 2012. Doc. told me to never go above 180 on my heart rate. So I purchased this amazing Heart Rate Monitor from Polar. K.I.S.S. principle! keep it simple stupid! this heart rate monitor gives me everything I need to know about my heart rate and the range and time and Average and Maximum heart rates logged. This thing I built like a tank. It's April 2016 now and I've used this for a few hours a week since March 2013. I even sleep with it on 1 or 2 nights a week to log my sleeping heart rate. Also wear this while strength training, it works. In my opinion the best heart rate monitor available on the market. Thank you Polar for giving my doctor and myself the needed peace of mind to keep my dumb butt from blowin' my heart up or dislodging a clot while im out rehabbing myself. If anything ever happens to this heart rate monitor I will replace it with the exact same make n' model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK for what I need I've had mine for about three years. I didn't need anything fancy. I have a bike computer and all that - I just needed a heart rate monitor. It's simple to use, which I like, but I think the battery in the chest piece is beginning to peter out. It doesn't start detecting my heartbeat as readily as it did in the past. I will probably replace it with something that will communicate with my iPhone for MapMyRide.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hard to start I bought this heart rate monitor just to watch my heart rate but it takes 5-10 minutes to get it started. I still haven't figured it out. The single button actually makes it harder to operate. Recommend spending more money for a watch that has multiple buttons.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Spend the extra money I bought this to use in our clinic to monitor heart rates of my clients, you have to hold it right next to their chest to get it to switch from HR to how long they are exercising. I had a different model before, but it stopped working, so I bought this one. I will be returning it and getting the one with multiple buttons, much easier to use

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value, entry level device It's a good value, does the few things it does well. A good choice for a first heart rate monitor while you're deciding how much money to invest. The official battery replacement method is going to cost you as much as a whole new unit, so consider it disposable after a year or two of use. There are videos on replacing the battery yourself, but it may ruin the waterproofing and will definitely void the warranty.
