Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I purchased this Power Pressure Cooker XL with all intentions of just using if for canning. I decided to give it a try for a dinner meal. It works just as advertised even when it comes to the time needed for pressuring up. For example, throw in all your ingredients at once (trust me - don't run a cooking cycle then add more then cook again) close the lid, push the corresponding cooking cycle, the machine will take up to 20 minutes to come to pressure then the cooking count down will begin. Overall, you could be looking at 40 total minutes to make your meal. Don't be discouraged if your meal is not as expected the first time, it will take time to make adjustments to your recipe and learn to use the machine to your style. I would recommend this to anyone. I purchased the 6 quart which is more than enough for a family of four. I look forward to giving it a try very soon on canning green beans and tomatoes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks good! Works? Ordered 2 pressure cookers. One was boxed fine, the second one although sealed was obviously a returned item because some of the accessories were missing and the box wasn't paced properly. So I kept the one that was fine and returned the second one to the store for replacement. The sales clerk at the store was very helpful and directed me to choose a replacement pressure cooker. We opened the box and it was fine. Thank goodness because the item was to be a gift or Christmas present. So in the end it all worked out well. Now as to whether the pressure cooker works I won't know until after Christmas once my son and daughter use the cooker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good. We found this cooker at a price better than any other place, even better than the TV shows "daily special." We have had it for several weeks and have used it about four times, we could not like it more. Everything we remember about pressure cookers from our childhood, quick, easy, and convient is in this product. (That is except for the scarey chattering metal release valve on top, the family always avoided the kitchen when that went off!) We are getting better at it each time, and are improving on the book's reciepts on our own. We purchased it on line, through an email ad, and the only thing i disliked was how the discounts were not applied to my purchase when i checked out, I had to call to get things straighted out. I can not comment on the durability yet as we have had it barely a month.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of cooking options. I have used a stove top version for several years. Finally decided to get an electric one and chose this one because it had so many great revues. I have to get used to setting the cooking times but so far I LOVE IT! I love that I can just set it and walk away. I don't have to watch it like I did the stove top one. Every kitchen should have one of these. I like that I can come home and cook a roast to perfection without having to wait for hours! It has a slow cook time on it too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is great and fun to cook... I gave different ratings is it could had use a little bit more explanation on instructions in the beginning. Felt kinda lost how long it takes to get to pressure then it starts to cook. But it dose make food delicious family love.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great cooker but small I wish they had a bigger size. The 6 quart is a little small for my family. But I love all the things you can do with this Tristar 6-qt. Power Pressure Cooker XL

Answer:
I watched commercial for this pressure cooker and it showed cooker browning meat. The person using said the cooker starts to heat for browning the minute it is plugged in and before you actually close for pressure cooking or slow cooking.

Answer:
It does not have a saute setting but the commercial did show them sauteing something in it before starting the full recipe. The cookbook has a roast recipe which calls for browning it on all sides using the meat setting prior to pressure cooking. Hope that helps!

I had the same question. One manual calls for oil and another says not to you oil. When you find out let me know. There is no setting for browning on the pressure cooker. Thanks

The stove top pressure cookers I've used over the years use a "jiggler" that allows cooking at 5,10 and 15 psi. Strange this very important aspect of pressure cooking is omitted from the specifications above.

Answer:
This cooker automatically sets the pressure based on what button you push. It doesn't say what it actually is. You only need to press the button of the type of food you are cooking and then adjust the time, based on the size. There is a cookbook included, but all recipes/foods are not included. I just look for something similar and go with that. Once you start using it, you will get a feel for how much time you need to cook something.
Use the grill/grate insert when cooking meats. It is a non-stick surface, but I had a hard time getting a roast off the bottom. I've used the grate insert the other times and it helps.
