Rated 5 out of 5 by from Baby loves it! Based on our registry my mother bought us this seat for our newborn. She didn't understand why we wanted such an "expensive" seat. We of course explained to her the history of recaro Racing seats and the safety aspects. Unfortunately with multiple vehicles we also received a less expensive car seat of a different brand. Within two months we started to realize our little girl would travel quiet and content in the Recaro, but would cry within ten minutes in the other seat. We purchased our own second Performance ride and haven't looked back since. The newer seat does have a few slight differences and we noticed our now 6 month old likes to sink down and the straps will end up being above her shoulders, the older model doesn't seem to allow her to do that. Beyond that she is quiet, comfortable, and most importantly safe! It is a large seat and it reduces leg room for the front passenger seat in smaller cars drastically. However, this is something I can live with due to the quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For Daddy's little race car driver only Recaro. Daddy is an avid car enthusiast so of course the only seat good enough for his baby girl was the Recaro Performance Ride. As a mother i felt very comfortable putting my child in this seat. rear facing up to 40 pounds is a huge plus because we plan on using it to its max. The performance ride is the way to go, we joke about her car seat being softer with the memory phone then our own bed! This seat is also very easy to clean. The removable inserts are so nice you can take it out and clean it with out having to do anything with the straps. When you do have to take apart and clean the other fabrics or shoulder pads the HERO system really put me at ease knowing i had it put back together correctly. The whole family loves this car seat and plus it looks amazing! Recaro's history in the car industry is outstanding if their seats are in top of the line cars and race cars they know safety.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from underwhelmed in every respect. I unfortunately had the same experience as the other single-star reviewer for a REAR-FACING configuration. The car seat would not sit in its "properly" installed configuration. I use "properly" in quotations because I made certain that the seat level line was level to the ground. Unfortunately I opted to NOT use a tightly rolled towel/pool noodle to prop the seat into the "as designed" safe-rear-facing position. So did I install the seat per the instructions? No. Do I trust a jerry-rigged, rolled up towel/pool noodle with my child's safety? No. I made a quick video of the configuration and the ease as which the seat could be flipped up and over.  Furthermore, I have always been a fan of the Recaro brand and know that it is a company that I have come to respect. However, to describe it gently, the quality of the car seat was underwhelming at best.  I ended up returning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best car seat I have seen. Recaro Performance Ride This is one of the nicest seats I have seen, in feel, style, safety, and comfort. I will break it down in different categories and give my opinion for each. This is my second child so I have dealt with car seats for several years and I am a Firefighter so I help customers often with their own seats. Description of seat The materials that this car seat is made out of are amazing. You can tell that the seat is made with very high quality fabrics. The fabric is very soft and my daughter is very comfortable in the seat. I really like the soft cushy neck straps on the harness. This keeps my daughters head in the right position even when she sleeps. She looks very comfortable. I like that there is a place for the instructions to store in the rear of the seat. I also like that you are able to store the latch straps and the top tether strap. This conveniently keeps these straps out of the way when you are moving the seat. Another feature I really like are the harness pockets that allow me to store the harness out of the way so it doesn’t get stuck underneath my daughter when I am putting her in the seat. Also preventing her from getting burned from the buckles (I live in AZ). Fit First of all, I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra hatchback so it is a very small car. I was surprised at how much room was still left on both sides of this car seat for passengers to sit. I installed the car seat rear facing and I still had at least 2-3 inches before it hit the front seats and that was with the front seats in the farthest position towards the rear seat. This seat actually takes up less room then my infant seat did. It is a very tall seat but Recaro did a great job with keeping the base narrow so that it fits in smaller cars. I also like that it is taller because that means I can keep my daughter in the seat for longer rear facing and it will be longer before I have to buy a booster seat. Installation Out of the box the car seat comes set up for forward facing so if you are going to use it as a rear facing seat, like I am, then you need to move the latch strap to the rear facing belt path which requires you to remove only the front portion of the trim cover. I found this to be very easy to do. It took me only a few minutes. The car seat fit very easily into the middle rear seat of my Elantra. I felt that attaching the latch strap to my vehicles lower anchors was very easy. They give you plenty of latch strap to reach your vehicles lower anchors which is nice because my previous infant seat had short latch straps, making it harder to install. Due to the angle of my rear seat I did have to put a pool noodle underneath the car seat as described in the instructions to level the car seat. To me this was not a big deal but you should probably plan ahead and purchase a pool noodle because most cars probably will need them. Also I put a piece of 3/4” PVC inside the pool noodle so it would not collapse. After I got the seat level, I then went to tighten the seat and I had the car seat installed in about 2 minutes. I do like to get my seat extremely tight so it does take me a little longer. I always find that it is a little bit harder to install all car seats rear facing then forward facing. There are some car seats that I have helped friends install and I can tell you that I was able to get this seat installed a lot tighter. Easy of Use It is very easy to get my daughter in and out of the seat. She fits very comfortable. I love that you don’t have to feed the harness to adjust height. You just turn the knobs on the side and it harness height moves up or down. The harness not only fits her very comfortable, but it is also one of the easiest ones I have seen to tighten. The straps don’t twist and they tighten evenly on both sides. You can tell this is very high quality and Recaro knew what they were doing when designing this seat. Everything just seems to line up perfectly. Safety One of the things that sold me on this car seat is the fact that Recaro has been designing seats for over 100 years and that they make race seats. I figured if they have race seat technology that I would be getting a very safe car seat. I really like that fact that they tested the side impact standards beyond the requirements of the USA. The fact that the harness adjust so easily, and that you can line it up correctly with your child’s body alone make this safer. No more feeding harness straps through the back of the seat. You can fine tune the exact height you need for your child. Overall First I like that this is german engineering but the seat is made in the USA, so we can support our country and not some other country. Like I said earlier this car seat is one of the nicest I have seen in materials, style, comfort, and safety. I personally think it is worth every penny. You get what you pay for and I can definitely tell there is a quality difference above the other car seats I looked at. When my daughter out grows this seat and needs a booster seat, with out question I will be buying a Recaro.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Puts me at ease My one-year old looks VERY secure and comfortable riding backfacing in the Recaro Performance Ride. We've tried a couple other carseats as well, and the Recaro appears to be the most safe by far. I feel completely at ease with my child in this seat. Beyond safety, I also like that the shoulder pads are secured to the seat back, so they don't slide all over the place and get in the way when strapping in the baby. One con: The seat is a bit tall. It is installed in the center back seat of our small car, and I (5'5") really struggle to see over it into my blind spot when driving.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Racing Chiropractor Approved! When I found out I was pregnant with our first child a year ago I immediately started looking for car seats. I am a Chiropractor and also a Baja 1000 desert racer so I knew I wanted the safest and best car seat available for my future child. I soon discovered that RECARO made child car seats and instantly knew that is the seat I wanted! My little boy is now 5 months old and I cannot say enough good things about his RECARO Performance Ride seat! Even the customer service was amazing when I called to register the seat and request the free infant insert. The seat is stylish, he enjoys sitting in it, it was easy to install, easy for me to adjust and most importantly you can just look at it and know it's safe! His head is well protected by the side cushions and the seat is sturdy without being bulky; it fits perfectly in my CTSV-Wagon and matches my RECARO seats perfectly! I love it and both my husband and I would never trust our sons’ safety in any other brand!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Baby is SO comfy in this seat! I absolutely LOVE this seat. I have had a Summer, a Graco, & currently 3 various Britax seats in addition to this one for all of our kids between two cars & this is by far my absolute favorite seat. My son never cries in this seat. He never comes out sweaty, like my older son did when he was in an infant seat. & I feel like the HERO harness system should be required in all carseats. My older son hates those velcro pads that come on other seats and takes them off, and when his straps get twisted he gets upset, but my little guy's head is always cradled on the built-in padding of this harness, and it never gets twisted so it's easy to get him buckled up quickly with no fuss. I really can't say how impressed I have been by the quality of the seat compared to other brands. I did have a model with the recall on the latch system & my repair kit arrived shortly after I submitted the claim.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our go-to brand for car seats We got this seat back in 2013 for our first son shortly after his 1st birthday, he is now 3 years old. This car seat has been through A LOT but it is definitely holding its ground. We have had so many great memories with this car seat. We've taken it on several airplane rides which made our airplane ride super comfy. We've even strolled it through the airport using those car seat roller things instead of taking our stroller. We have taken it on two 10+ hour road trips. I have even carried it by myself from the back of the airplane to inside of the airport and vice versa while being 6 months pregnant. We love this car seat so much. Our 2nd baby is 6 months old and we are already talking about purchasing one for him when he turns 1. (don't worry he will be rear-faced, as was with my older son when he turned 1) My only ONLY con is that I wish the cup holder is built-in because my son always kicks it off so it tends to roll underneath our seats. Also it's a bit of a stretch for him to reach his drink. If it could possibly built closer, it would be nice. Overall, we love our car seat!
