The dress has a sleeveless sheath-shaped liner inside it (nylon material is my guess) which has a bit of "give," and an outer layer (the part that shows) is also able to stretch a bit. I bought the dress because I did not want a dress which clung tightly to my body, and preferred one which would lay smoothly over my body. This dress, especially with the jacket and one-piece shape wear, gave me the desired smooth- look and hid the parts of my body that I didn't want to bring to people's attention. It outlined my general shape without showing any lumps or bumps. I was happy with the dress, wore it to my daughter's wedding, and received compliments. I'm 5 ft 5 inches tall, and about 165 pounds. The size 12 petite fit me, with the dress hem hitting me at the knee. The 12 also fit well, but the jacket on the petite was shorter and looked better.
