Rated 1 out of 5 by Theres a clue in the name. 'Decorative rod'. If you want to open and close these drapes, don't buy telescopic rods. There's a clue in the name. 'Decorative rod'. If you want to open and close your drapes, don't buy any telescoping rods. You can't get drapes/drapery rings over the join. Curtain rings (sold separately) also look really nice but functionality is extremely poor. If you open and close your drapes, the sprung clip that grips your drapes can not hold fabric weight. Lightweight silk/sheers for show only, might be ok, but who has those for New England winters! Very poorly designed. obviously not tested over any period of time. Very disappointing. I have installed 40' of these rods in my bedroom and I wish I had taken them back for a refund. I get frustrated looking at these every day where the drapes continually come out of the clips. One window is 11' high and my husband and I get extremely frustrated having to get our very heavy ladder from the garage to our bedroom every few weeks to re-clip the drapes. My bedroom looks completely shabby now because of the drapes!! May 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very nice looking! These were easy to install & they look great! I also bought the JCP Home Quinn Leaf Grommet Top curtains & they match perfectly. I'm very happy with both of those purchases. April 4, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for Grommets! Great grommet curtain rod - fits the large grommet holes nicely. Sturdy and nice looking too! March 16, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply stunning Simple, elegant, and stunning! Trying to find a simple and elegant curtain rod was harder than buying my condo! Thank you JCP for carrying a simply stunning curtain rod! The finish matches the rest of my hardware perfectly. March 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Heavy duty product I was very surprised how heavy it seemed, very nice finish. February 17, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Heavy Curtain Rod This is a great curtain rod if you want something to hold heavier drapes or something with grommets. It was easy to install and I would purchase again if needed. January 26, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Stunning & Elegant Clean lines, easy installation and looks very bold and stately. Came with wall anchors so I didn't need any extra hardware for installation. I simply measured, marked, drilled a small pilot, inserted the anchor then installed the bracket. I took away a star on quality because I know there are heftier, hardier rods out there, but once in place you would never be able to tell. The brushed finish is beautiful and I would definitely recommend this product. December 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to install and very nice Wanted rods to go with my new drapes for the living and dining rooms. These work perfect with grommet-top curtain panels. Dressy enough for formal rooms. December 9, 2015

Answer:
I would go with 4 brackets so that you can have a panel between each bracket - remember that you can not pass the bracket with the drape. This would mean three panels. 2 end brackets and two equally spaced apart between the outer brackets. If you are more comfortable with 4 panels - space the two middle brackets further apart and put two panels in the middle to spread from the center towards the outer brackets. Ive included a photo as a visual.(look at the front sliders....not the background one!)
