Rated 3 out of 5 by Adequate but not great! I ordered 2 rods. Received one rod which was dented on one end, which caused paint to flake off. It was very light and thin metal. I did go and buy another one, as it was also the most reasonably priced rod. January 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by hi-end look for not a lot of money The decorative ball on each end has a really gorgeous marbelized look - you have to see in person to appreciate! The overall look is that of a very pricey window treatment! Very indulgent looking - can't stop admiring them. Thank you Penney's for another fantastic product at very reasonable prices. Rated 5 out of 5 by very good product looks great on 9 windows in our new home, and the shipping was very quick September 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful finials Curtain rod is way prettier than picture shows. The finials are like marble with a caramel "vein" running through. My grommet curtains glide easily over this rod. September 16, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by good quality...looks great...very sturdy The various JCP sales did not include Umbra products...so I paid the full price...thus value rated average. The rod looks black online...it is actually a very dark brown...a plus for me. Each rod comes with three brackets. For one of the brackets, the screw holding the rod secure would not tighten...as the hole was a bit too large for the screw. Not a problem for me...as I need only one center bracket for my widest window...I bought three Umbra rods. The JCP ad lists the minimum rod length as 72 inches...not true! Each rod is in three pieces...left, right and a center rod that fits inside the other two rods. The left and right rods each measure 4' 2" (50 inches)...so minimum length would be 8'4" (100 inches). Again, not a problem for me. If I had needed a shorter length, I suppose a hacksaw would have solved it. February 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful Rods These curtain rods look great with the curtains that I also bought at JCP. The finials have both brown and golden brown to give a marbled look.....looks great with my wood floors with both dark and light areas. September 9, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product Easy to put up and looks great. Works well with the windows that I have as they are very wide... July 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Adds touch of beauty and class to my home. My grommet panels come out looking great with the new umbra rods. Deep mahogany color matches my furniture. June 24, 2015

Answer:
One side fits into the other so you can adjust the length. It is very strong and looks all one piece when it is up. I used only 3 of the support brackets with 2 on the ends and one in the middle, but they send you 4. All materials you need are included, except you need a screwdriver of your own.
