I feel kind of silly, writting a review for underwear, but I have searched a long time for these type of boxers.
I spent 20 years in the Navy and never once had a concern about underwear, until all my Navy skivves woreout.
Since that time I have made due with every imaginable style and type of shorts.
All briefs have an almost impossible to navigate front opening,(all you guys know exactly what I'm talking about)
The every day boxer that you come across has all sorts of access opening issues, most of which have a real containment problem.
So i started looking for some type of underwear that came close to my old Navy skivves, and walaa I found them at JC Penney's in the Stafford cotton yoke front boxers.
Buy these guys and you will never buy anything else again.

Yoke fronts are the original, very retro style of boxer shorts and the most comfortable. They have a slimmer profile than regular elastic boxers because there isn't so much fabric needed around the waist -- the waist opens up for pulling on. They tend to ride high, with the top reaching just under the navel. Leg length is increased to accommodate this for modesty reasons. I ordered 38 inch waist, and the length is 17", just right. Sizing is accurate. Fabric could be a bit thicker, but is very soft and feels good.
Like other reviewers, I would really like to see the old geometric, traditional prints come back.
These are super comfortable underwear and do not bunch up as elastic-waisted boxers often do, they just hang nicely from the snug yoke. I like these for hot weather wear and I like the poly cotton white Stafford briefs or boxer briefs for the fall and spring, unionsuits for the really cold weather....I get them all from JCP because the styling is cool and retro and they don't mess with "redesigning" their products too much.

These boxers have been a little tricky for myself. I usually by my boxers bigger than my regular size because I want loose shorts that don't bind up. These however are a cotton/poly blend that are sold in even sizes. The first set I purchased were to large in the waist(40). The second set I purchased(38) are still a little loose but will work. These don't shrink up like 100% cotton so I know the fit won't get any better. I like the style of these boxers but wish they sold them in a single pair to try on and get a handle on the fit. The styling on these shorts is what I want but I would like them in 100% cotton. I will not return the others because I don't believe in returning underwear. I will donate to goodwill or like charity. The next set that I purchase will be a size 36. My waist size is between 35-36 and fluctuates sometimes. So yes, these are true to size if you purchase these. The 100% cotton woven boxers I purchase in the Stafford brand is a size XXL(44-46) and the waist shrinks down so that they hug my waist just fine after a good hot water wash and dry. But I like the snap waist of these boxers and will continue to purchase these.

Bought these for my boyfriend. He had never seen or worn this style before. Besides looking really great on him, he loves the way they feel. These yoke front boxers make both of us happy! Would be great to have old fashioned patterns again to chose from. Please don't discontinue them!!!

If you like vintage clothing, these are just the thing, though the patterns aren't really vintage. Used to be they were cut small and short, then the snaps didn't stay snapped ... but they're much better now, and recommend-able. The fabric is nice (blend, not all-cotton so they keep their shape through washing and drying), the elastic is high-quality, the snaps work right (or return them, Penneys is good about that) and they're well constructed (Mexico). I usually buy a size up from my waist size, then double-fold over the right yoke (as you're wearing them - the side with the male-snaps) and topstitch it down. That makes the perfect size for me. You can still get the Brooks Brothers button-front boxers, but as far as I know these are the sole survivors of the yoke-front style, and when they're on sale they're well-priced, too.

This yoke-front style boxer is the only one that I know of my 94 year-old father wearing for at least 30 years. JCPenney online is the only place that I am aware of to find them. A few years ago when the brand went from Towncraft to Stafford, the size 36 was smaller than it had been. We ordered size 38 this time. The snaps are so tight that it feels as is the fabric will tear when you try to unsnap them, and they are difficult to snap also. Hoping that with time they will be easier to manage.

These under shorts are well made, fit well and wash/dry beautifully!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Duffy Good product which would be better with a higher % of cotton. Also the fit indicated is way small so be sure to order 2 sizes larger.
I thought the Towncraft version of these boxer shorts were a better value overall, but for some reason apparently they are no longer available; however these Stafford shorts are a reasonable replacement. They would be better with a higher percentage of cotton to polyester and the sizing is definitely smaller than a true fit.
I wear a size 32 and initially ordered 34's to be on the safe side and my measurement on them came out to a 30 so I returned them for size 36 which actually measures 32.
