I have been wearing the JC Penny Performance brand, Boxer/Boxer Briefs for many years without any issues. Now that they are not available, they are sorely missed and their replacement, Essentials is a second rate, cheaper version of the original. I must first start by saying my body type is athletic and not overweight.
The biggest issue is the seat. The back of the brief was always a one-piece fabric and contoured to fit perfectly. Now, J C Penny has elected to piece together multiple pieces of fabric. What that has done, is left the Brief with a seam running up the center on both sides of the rear of the Brief, which feels extremely uncomfortable compared to the No-Seamed Performance Brief. When you pull them on, all you feel is the tug of the two seams on your behind, compared to forgiving stretch of the one piece Performance. Also, the waist band is extremely course and not quite as forgiving as the Performance brand.
At the end of the day, JC Penny has figured out how to create a cheaper, less comfortable copy, of the original.

needed to go under a kilt and these did the job well. they don't fit quite as nice as on the model--leg openigs & thru thigh are a bit baggy, but otherwise just the ticket. would buy again.

I've been wearing these for years - and keep buying more as new pair wear out. They fit well and last for years. No complaints.

Rated 2 out of 5 by btsuperman Quality was sacrificed for price
I have used this brand for twenty years, occasionally purchasing another brand in a pinch. Penney's was consistently the best quality for the money. I recently bought several new pairs. The quality is gone. The material used, including for the waist band, is thin and no longer provides support. The material is more 'sheer' than in the past - I can even see through it. If you are looking for a thin flimsy Boxer Brief, then this is probably for you. But if you have used this product in the past, be aware that this is not the same thing and you will be disappointed if you buy it expecting the quality that Penney's was previously known for.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Duke Not worth the money!
I bought a couple of packs of these underwear because they were on sale before I took my vacation and one pair came completely unstitched between the fly and inner thigh and I threw them away after only having wore them to drive from Atlanta to Savannah, another pair from the same package came unstitched next to the fly opening again I threw them away! I have had the same underwear made by other companies such as FOTL Hanes or BVD that for 2 or more years and they still look and wear like new but STAFFORD underwear are just not made well and do not last for more than a month or so at the most!

These boxer briefs are quality products. The knit is not so thin you can read through it. They don't shrink too much in the wash. The stitching is perfect. They are available in extended sizes. I will buy these again and again.
