Rated 5 out of 5 by love this island received this today. took me about 3 1/2 hours to put together and I was able to complete this by myself. I have put together quite a bit of furniture and a treadmill or two, so I had some experience. Mostly, I just took my time, looked at the directions alot and counted all my parts before I began. The island exceeds my expectations and for the price, you can't beat it. I recommend it to anyone. I didn't have any scratches or blemishes of any kind on my unit but the exterior packaging was quite beat up. About JCPenny; I ordered the product online on 3/14, got my ship confirm on 3/15 and UPS attempted the first delivery on 3/18. This was the last piece to my kitchen update (new flooring, new stove, double shelf pot rack, building in the dishwasher) and it really fits the bill. Thanks JCPenny. March 22, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great inexpensive kitchen cart I bought this cart last year for my small kitchen to provide seating and extra counter space, its looks great, and has proved to be worth the cost. I used S hooks to hang pans on one the paper towel holder since I already have one above the since, this keeps my pans handy and easy to grab. My boyfriend also ground down part of the bar for the spice holder so that my knife block fit in the space. I put it together by myself in about 2 hours. My only complaint is that the door does not always stay shut and that you can't pound or put sudden force on the top, since its not totally stable. But for the price its an amazing value. Rated 5 out of 5 by Rich looking cart The very first screw my husband used to put this together broke in two. but all the rest worked. It took him 3 hours by himself to put it together. He used wood glue for the dowels. I LOVE IT. The drop leaf is nice to have if you need extra work area. I'm not going to cut on the wood top it will wreck it over time so I placed a cutting board on it and a set of knives and it matches great. It just rolls around on the floor nice if you want to move it to clean under it then just lock the wheels back in place. If my mom seen this she would sure want the red like mine. I would recommend this cart to anyone. the price was great. February 9, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice Island I was hesitant about getting this, but after reading the reviews I bought it. As all reviews have stated this takes awhile to put together (took my husband nearly 3 hours and he's used to putting these types of things together) and the directions aren't the best... The dropleaf adds a nice touch however mine isn't even with the counter if I have it up, so we just leave it down. Some of the panels look flimsy/cheap but you must look closely to notice. It does hold a lot and adds a nice touch to the kitchen. This fits perfectly in my small kitchen. For the money I spent on this, I am overall happy with it. June 24, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good deal I looked at kitchen carts/islands for a long time before settling on this one. I felt it gave us the most "bang for our buck". It arrived quickly, in good condition. I took the time to unpack and check all the parts before I started to put it together. I was able to do this entirely by myself in about 3 1/2 hours. It does have a nice amount of storage and the doors fit beautifully. The drawers...well, they do seem to catch a bit when you open them so it isn't exactly smooth. The countertop is beautiful. My one issue is that the side section, when raised, isn't level with the countertop (see photo). I can't figure out how to make that right. It is angled slightly and I can't imagine anyone actually putting any weight on it. I want to try to stabilize it more. I did put a small "L" bracket in the inside because I didn't feel the counter was very secure along the backside. The cart looks nice but I do question how sturdy it is going to be. April 5, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very nice overall, but a pain to assemble. It looks really good now that it's been put together. It was just a pain to assemble it, however I expected that based on the other reviews. I can normally put things together fairly easily. This cart took about 5-6 hours over the course of two days doing it by myself. I got a little frustrated because I did not have the right screwdrivers so I took a break. I went out and purchased an electric screwdriver the next morning to finish the task. If you want to make the process a lot easier and faster, I would recommend an electric screwdriver. There are a couple things that aren't perfect. About 2 of the screws did not line up properly with some of the holes. The back panels were a little bit flimsy. Finally, one of the doors in the front doesn't close properly because of the magnet. Overall I am a very happy girl . It's the perfect red color and the size is perfect. I have a pretty small apartment kitchen so I love that I can just roll it out of the way when I'm not using it. I plan on using it mostly for prep space for cooking/baking. The added bonus is the extra storage for my crock pot and food processor. I love my new kitchen cart!! It was definitely worth the trouble. February 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by LOVE LOVE LOVE!! I purchased this cart because the kitchen in our new house is tiny with few counter tops and almost no storage. This island took care of those issues immediately! Very sturdy, though the back wall is a bit flimsy. The butcher board top is nice and love how much room I get with the drop leaf extended. My brother and I put this together in under 2 hours. Best bet is to toss the instructions and use common sense to put it together...the instructions are atrocious!!! Half way through, we gave up on the instructions and finished it without them because they were just too frustrating. Love the casters as it allows me to move the cart around to clean. I would recommend this cart to anyone and to be honest, would love to have another one for our lower level kitchen as well! I have owned the one that I have since October and have yet to see any problems with it! January 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice product, good price. This island is a great addition to my small 2nd kitchen. It's sturdy enough to place my full sized GE microwave on it! It looks pretty nice too! I had to have my neighbor (woodworker) assemble it for me. I tried, but failed. December 10, 2014

Answer:
I do not think you do, but then the wood would be on the floor, so I would suggest adding some padding or something to protect your floor. We like the wheels as it makes it easy to move closer to the counter when baking, etc.

I wouldn't think so since you have to screw them on the bottom yourself. If you don't use them though, you will be taking about 3-4 inches off the height.

Answer:
The casters are the wheels. Those just allow you to move them more easily. Two of the wheels can actually be locked so that the island doesn't move around when being used.

Answer:
No. You do not have to attached the casters, but the island weights about 130 pounds so it may be hard to move without them.

Answer:
Probably not but it's made out of pressed wood and would not do well in a kitchen if the floor ever gets wet

I that's the main thing I use it for. Don't expect it to hold a ton of weight, but my daughter has eaten at it, colored, played with play-doh while I work in the kitchen. Also its not huge, just big enough for 2 adults, maybe 3 kids.

The top is made of wood. It would need to be protected by using a cutting board, but yes you can certainly fit a cutting board, its very heavy, good quality.

I called the store and they "think" the width measurements (53 3/4) go from the spice rack to the paper towel holder. The video says that's the top's width. I need to know the exact measurements of the top (without spice rack and paper towel holder). I appreciate your help.
