Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Fryer for a Couple We wanted to buy this at the store at the Sale price and Penney's did not have any in stock. So the Sales Clerk, ordered it on the Internet website and matched the store price. I can not believe how quickly it came. A well known brand product at bargain basement prices. What a deal. The Waring is all stainless steel and comes apart easily for easy cleaning. Instructions to operate and cook are real easy. Way to go JC Penney's! January 13, 2016

Answer:
I only had about 1 pint of peanut oil on hand when I first purchased this and it wasn't enough to cover the heating element. The space between the min and max line is very small. The instructions call for 2 quarts, and I imagine 1.5 quarts would be the bare minimum or your food will not be fully submerged.

If your looking for something with very little oil, I would recommend the cuisinart compact deep fryer (my previous model) which only uses about 1 quart of oil (you can probably get away with a little bit less). It has less food capacity though and also does not have an exposed heating element so it takes longer to heat the oil and get back up to temperature when food is added.
