Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Value Plus Able to Customize I bought 3 of these shades in ivory when I was redecorating my kitchen nook in spite of the fact that I knew they would be a little short. (That sounds weird, but we back up to open space and are 12' off the ground and don't get much sun on that side of the house so I rarely need to put them down.) They were easy to install and they filter the light without completely blacking it out. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the strip of fabric that covers the hardware can come off so I used some of the fabric from my FR curtains and a little velcro to customize the topper. I love the look and am purchasing more for my MB as I'm tired of the dust that accumulate on my Hunter Douglas blinds. I would highly recommend! April 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these Shades I have been looking for some window treatments for over a year, specifically interested in the Roman Shade style. I came across these on sale on the JC Penny website & decided to try them out. I love them! They are not lined so it lets some light through which is perfect for my dining room. I hung them on the inside of my windows & they were very easy to mount. I'm considering going back to get a pair for my living room! February 11, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Nice really like these for 2 reasons.. 1) the color seems to blend depending on the light.. of course that may not be the case with other colors.. but I like that these seems to become lighter or darker depending on the light.. 2) very easy install...just quick measurement.. a few brackets.. and pop it in.. adds some character to the room for sure.. February 11, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful! I was in desperate need for a new look in my dinning room window and couldn't really afford the cost of custom roman blinds. After searching and searching for days, I came across this product. I was a little skeptical because of the low price...thought for sure it was going to be junk, but I figure worst case scenario I can return them to the store so I ordered two online. They came within a few days and let me tell you, I was impressed. They are very well made, thick material but light to enough to hang them myself, they look nice and neat, they are not lined but my window faces my driveway so I really wasn't concerned. I was extremely happy! Thank you so much JCPenney. January 9, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by poor quality The shade is thin and overall flimsy not very sturdy thought it would be thicker and better made May 1, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by just what i was looking for! I wanted roman shades for my porch and these are perfect fit and color. I ordered brown to match the beams and a perfect match. True to size and easy to use. They look great and a friend wants to order them also! Highly recommend. Keeps glaring sun out very well. Great shades and great price! April 21, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Savannah Roman Shades Have Savannah shades in almost my entire home. 2 years ago installed them in many rooms.. We were happy with the quality & price. Last fall ordered 6 more windows, we couldn't believe the difference in quality. Old shades have a 7 inch valence and are much larger fold. New ones would not even stack up, just bunched. Material was horrible, not the same at all. Recently decided to order one more time for some den windows. Back to the original materials, which is a big plus, however the valence is only 5 inches & only 6inches between folds. They are better then the last bunch, but still not as nice as the originals 2 years ago. Colors are as shown & samples are available which is a plus BOTTOM LINE, wish they would get the original manufacture back- March 16, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Shades My living room needed an update; my windows have nice molding around them but that was covered up by the drapes I had hanging, so I wanted the clean look of roman shades. First the bad: they were easy to install, once you figure out the sketchy instructions. I hung the bracket incorrectly on the first window as the diagram was a little unclear, Once I figured that out the rest went up very quickly. They're a quality canvas and heavyweight enough so they hand nicely and show off their pleats. I purchased them in a burgandy color and by happenstance they perfectly matched the carpet and throw pillow I have on the couch so they really coordinate well in the room. They were also on sale when i bought them and they were really affordable so I am very pleased with this purchase. March 9, 2016

Answer:
Hello...They would work on an outside mount without window trim if you are sure to use anchors with the screws. Otherwise they will come loose and fall out of the screw holes in a short time after installing.

On your comment about swatches you will have to contact JCP directly. I am just a fellow customer who volunteered to answer questions on this product.

Answer:
I do not have window trim either. I installed them outside of the window. Just get them a little wider. I added to each side 2-3 inches to make sure that in the summer sun will not peak into the room by the left or right eges,
or street lamp is not shining into my face when I'm sleeping.

It's mentioned that there is difficulty in raising and lowering these shades. Since all 4 of my windows will need this function daily I am concerned about the ease in doing so... does the cord operate smoothly and quickly?

I raise and lower mine several times a day (for the dog) and haven't had an issue with it. At most I may fix the fold in the fabric so that it creases in the same place but I wouldn't consider it difficult by any stretch.

Answer:
I have had no problems in raising and lowering these shades. I have one in my niece's room and she has a penchant for being rough with window treatments, but she has not had any difficulty, nor has she broken it, as she did to the bamboo roman shade that was previously there. Thus far, it has been a "smooth operator".

I just installed mine about a week ago and like you, I like to raise and lower frequently as my living room faces the East and the sun is mighty bright in the morning. I've had no issues raising and lowering the shades.

These are sooo easy to raise and drop. Very smooth , no tugging with cords. My teenager said how easy they were. Get them you will be satisfied. I also have RA in my wrists and hands and these are still very easy to raise and lower.

Answer:
I find that they are incredibly easy to raise and lower. The only issue I think anyone would possibly complain about would be that sometimes the little pleats will invert while they are (in transit) being pulled upward. I just use my free hand to give them a little tug and they pull into line with the others very quickly. I really like these blinds. I have custom blinds in my home that cost up to $400 each, that are more difficult to operate than these. For the price you are getting an excellent product...Just my opinion.

Inside mount
My window measures 28 3/4 inches. Would a 29 inch roman shade be the correct size to buy?

Also, my depth is only 1 inch. Would these be able to be mounted on the inside?

Answer:
This size would have to be mounted outside the window, but would line up well with the size of your window giving full coverage. If you would want a little more overlap you could size up one size. For inside mount this measurement would not work.

Answer:
I mount these on the outside because my window frames do not match the shade measurements. Penney's has such a good return policy so if the 29" Roman Shades don't fit in your 28 3/4" window, you can return them. Good luck!

That should fit but the shade comes with different mounting options (side or top mount), so something should work for you.

Answer:
No, you cannot shorten these. The drawstrings run the full length of the blinds and shortening would cut them...Or if you did you would never be able to draw them up and down. Not to mention the raw edges would be unattractive.

Answer:
Unlike the Plantation Blind OR shutter blind, these blinds are made of fabric, and seem to be seamed as a whole blind... My windows are way shorter than the measurements, however, that doesn't mean they have to drag all the way down.. I just stop the height on my own, and still, the blinds look fabulous anyway... I hope this helps!

Answer:
It cannot be cleaned to any extent. I have lightly wiped a little spot off, but something like grease, it would get in the fabric and not come off. These shades, since they are fairly inexpensive just may need to be replaced after a while. I have one of them in my kitchen and although it's not over the stove, it's near by, but I have had it 7 years and apart from the dust at time, it looks just like new.
