Year 2020 is a Leap Year, which means we have one extra calendar day—February 29! Leap Day usually passes by without much ado or recognition by the general public. But, we at JCPenney would like to change that perception, and encourage you to take advantage of this free day by taking a step out of your comfort zone and spend it doing things you might not normally do.
Let’s start with focusing on you! You deserve to treat yourself now and again to a day devoted to making yourself feel and look good. A confident exterior is sometimes key to a positive inner health. Pamper yourself and make a salon appointment. The Salon by InStyle is ready to help you relax and look gorgeous and refreshed. Find a list of all the services available so you can use your day wisely. And, don’t forget to stock up on all your favorite brands of products to take home to keep the luxuriousness going.

At Sephora Inside JCPenney, you can find new arrivals or your tried-and-true brands that make you feel gorgeous. Go for the party-ready options to dazzle or get down to the basics with our full skincare line. You can shop by skin type—dry, normal, oily, sensitive or combination or focus on areas of concern like acne, redness, pores or wrinkles. And, if you’re feeling generous, pick up a gift for another deserving friend or family member.

Play with the Kids
What if you took a small break from being a parent on Leap Day and decided to simply say “yes” to your kids’ requests for the day? All kids really want anyway is your time. Spend the whole day doing activities they want to do. Most kids would agree that “game day” would be awesome. And, not necessarily electronic games. Keep it classic and break out the board games or cards. Introduce your kids to the games you used to love as a kid. “Clue,” “Monopoly,” “Pictionary” and more—we bet they’ll like them just as much as you do. Or try new silly or messy versions of games to keep you learning as well.
You can also make your own fun and games—throw a frog-themed “leap” party, complete with green decorations, leap-frog games, lily-pad ball toss, swamp punch and other toad-ally yummy snacks. Old games, new games, homemade games—it’s all fun when you spend time together.

Wow with a Workout
Perhaps you’ve been putting off starting that new exercise regime. Or maybe you’re a little slow in starting your New Year’s resolutions. Before you groan, let’s propose to make this activity more fun than usual exercise. One way is to try out a new machine for working specific muscles. From rowing machines to ellipticals and exercise bikes, you can count your progress easily and efficiently, all from the comfort of your own home.
Maybe you prefer a more scenic route on the path to wellness? Take a hike at a nearby forest or park or jog in your neighborhood. Just ensure that your feet are well protected and cushioned for the right terrain. Grab a new pair of running or cross-training shoes to put your best foot forward. Either listen to the soft sounds of nature or add your playlist onto some headphones to pump up your energy and keep the stamina going.
With either option you choose for working out, monitor your success with a fitness tracker or smart watch. Plus, they keep the time so you can verify that you’re making every second of your Leap Day count.

Catch up Around the House
Some people view this extra day as a day to get chores accomplished and start the week off with a clean slate, so to speak. It’s so refreshing to have a spotless house—think of it as an early spring cleaning. But, of course, there’s no need for you to do all the heavy-duty work. Put some of the best suck-ups on the task. New high-powered vacuums make the work effortless—especially the robotic vacuum cleaners! Take it a step further and really deep clean with a steam mop. Tackle the floors, baseboards, curtains and blinds to revitalize your house and your spirits.

Cook & Bake the Day Away
If you secretly would love to be a chef, then maybe today’s the day to practice till it’s perfect (or at least delicious). Break out the cookware and make the kitchen your domain for the day. Leap Day is the ideal day to take a chance on a challenging new recipe you’ve been wanting to try. If baking is more your style, then whip up some delectable desserts or comforting breads. Invite friends or family to help you and make it a party.

Or, if you prefer, use this day as a meal prep day. Make and freeze meals for upcoming busy nights when you don’t have time to cook. Chop up veggies and fruits, and pack snacks for the kids or plan out lunches for the next week. Doing a little work ahead of time makes a big difference later.
No matter how you spend this February 29, we hope you do something you enjoy and mark this day off the calendar as one to remember.
