You’ve probably always wanted to clean your pantry, your freezer and counters, but you just never seemed to have enough time to devote to this chore before. Well, now you might just have some spare hours in the day to accomplish this task. Whether you’re organizing your existing collection of goods or trying to accommodate your newly acquired stash of stocked items, we’ve got tips, ideas and containers to help you find a spot for everything.
Freeze for the Future
Online searches for freezer meals, prep-ahead menus and foods that last have increased massively over the past month or so. Everyone is at home with families that need to be fed three times a day, and smart ideas of what to cook are much needed. You’ve probably stocked up on meat, seafood, frozen fruit and other daily essentials to keep your household running smoothly for weeks. Try freezing some basics too to last longer. For example, milk can be frozen for a few months. Just make sure to remove an inch or two of milk first, as milk expands when frozen. (You do not want it to explode in the freezer.) Other items that fare well in the colder temps are bananas. Those bananas on the counter just seem to go bad too fast, and your family is getting tired of banana bread. Simply peel the bananas, put in baggies and place in the freezer for a potassium punch to recipes at a later date. Discover more food you didn’t know you could freeze here.

Clear the Counter Clutter
Make your countertops cleaner and more organized with some simple additions to your kitchen. Choosing a new canister set can refresh in an instant. Perk up the cooking area with a bold color. Or, opt for canisters with see-through exteriors, windows or lids so you can easily see what’s inside. Did you stock up on bread products? (I did.) But, the excess plastic bags look a little junky sitting out. Buy a cute bread box and hide those loaves from sight. With their easy-slide doors, it’s like a miniature garage for baked goodies.

Pretty the Pantry
With a stockpile of groceries, the pantry is packed. Take a moment or two to organize your shelves. First, clear everything out and sort into categories. If like items are grouped together in a common area, they’ll be easier to find when you need them. Store dry goods in containers or dispensers for easier access. Label to make it even more foolproof. Designate a corner for spices. These fragrant flecks should be at eye level for easy grab and go. Try displaying on spice racks or holders to keep standing at attention and ready for service.
