Key Rules That Come in Handy
The first rule of layered bedding is to know that the sizing of pillows and throws are slightly different for a king, queen, and twin bed. The thumb rule is to size up for a king-sized bed and down for a twin. But below are the instructions referring to are specifically for a queen-sized bed. Another important rule to note is to upsize your duvet inserts. It adds a warm layer for a fluffy paradise and exudes a luxurious look.

Step 1: If you don’t already have one, you need to invest in a mattress topper. You could easily change the firmness of the bed by adding one. They go on top of the mattress and under the fitted sheet.
Step 2: Once that’s settled, spread the fitted sheet over the mattress topper. Tuck the sheet in well and all around the mattress so it doesn’t let the mattress topper wiggle around in your sleep.
Step 3: Next, add the top sheet. Lay it on the bed and pull it as far as the top of the bed. Be sure to fold it in the ends at the bottom of the bed and tuck it under the mattress. You could use your top sheet, top side down, so you can fold it over once the bed is made. And the soft side comes in contact with the body.
Step 4: Add a top blanket. The key here is to make sure that this first blanket is pretty flat so it contrasts with the duvet you will put on top of it.
Step 5: The next bedding piece is to add a duvet. Also, remember the inserts. Once you place them in your duvet, it’s ready to go on your bed. Fold it around halfway down the bed, so the top of the duvet is in line with where you folded your top sheet.
Step 6: To finish off your blankets, add a throw at the bottom of your bed. Check out our wide variety of throws so you can create multiple looks instantly.
Step 7: Start pillow layering with two king shams at the headboard. The second layer will be two standard-sized pillows. For a fuller look, you can go with another two square pillows with matching pillowcases and complete the look with another decorative or statement pillow to tie your bed together.
